EDIT: REHOMED!!
Looking for an immediate home for our surprise Russian Orloff rooster, who was supposed to be a pullet. About 6 months old and just starting to display rooster tendencies. Located Northeast of Nashville but will meet locally for hand off.
The eggs were all close in age as I had that problem previously. My girl has given up and instead turned to taking care of her 3 month olds again. She nags them to go inside when it's dark and they sleep on top of her in the nest box. It's like a pile of tails and legs in there.
I guess this...
The only open spaces I saw in were in the pen and I would say it's a half inch gap between the door and doorway. Did not find any openings in the coop other than the door we've been leaving open in the heat. I did find a small wasp's nest at the peak of the house though.
I've had a few interested days of chicken-dom lately. Agatha, my broody who had her comb ripped off is recovering. I had to catch her to blue-coat her head while she was in the nest box and she screamed murder. I have never had her fight so much to get away.
I candled the eggs underneath her...
Someone attacked my broody and ripped off part of her comb yesterday. Tonight I grabbed the suspected offender and stuck her rump in time out. I'm pretty sure it's her as she looks immaculate and everyone else looks like hell. Even the Rooster is almost missing his entire tail.
So my broody has been sitting on eggs for a few weeks. I could have sworn she was supposed to have babies this week but none came. I took her eggs out and candled them. Two are certainly near the last stages of development as they are mostly full. I marked them so we wouldn't remove them with...
Hey again. Just posting a mini update. Agatha ended up being a good mom and took over watching the straggler I hatched in the incubator. The three poofs are about 2 months old now and are showing no signs of crowing or overtly male behavior. Each of them have a poof on the top of their heads...
Good luck on your broodies!
Agatha is apparently a pretty good mom. I'm actually impressed. The lone chick was nestled in with her last night and when I checked on them this morning they were still asleep. I wanted to make sure the chick was alive and accidently woke up all the chicks.
I...
Wish me luck. I put the indoor chick outside with the rest of them for playtime and left them be. The mom let her nestle underneath her wing so I have hope that she will accept the chick. I went out to check on them and everyone went inside to bed except the lone baby who couldn't figure out how...
I am not far from you out near Doylestown!
Welcome, @WVduckchick ! I knew you weren't that far off from OH.
The first one we had was a mean SOB. Biting, attacking, flogging. We gave him away and rejoiced when he left. The polish is better but in general the chickens don't like my husband...
We've got 1 polish roo, 2 GLW, 2 Dominque, 2 BAs, 3 EE (two ended up as roosters) and now 3 mixed babies. I guess he thinks we are good?
Maybe it would be okay if they seemed to like him. The Polish tries to act tough and attack him when he goes in the pen. The roo keeps his distance around...
Thank you, I will have to run it by my husband tonight.
I was hoping to integrate it but so far it's like the orphan chick. The mother pecked at it for getting by her other chicks but it wasn't a mean peck, just a warning. I take it out for supervised time and it wanders around and all the...
Does anyone have a baby chick for sale in the NE Ohio area? I need a pal for my lonely chick.
Our hen hatched 2 last week and then abandoned the nest. I put the other two eggs in the incubator to see if they could be saved. One hatched and one stopped developing. The one that hatched is a week...
