I'm curious because in the future I'd like to have a muscovy and 2 runners. Would eggs be considered a "food source"...

I've had my hormones checked, they are low, however I am incapable of taking hormone therapy without really bad side effects so I pretty much have to deal with it. I'm only 30 and have already dealt with hot flashes :P

Oh yes, pacing myself is one thing I tend to be on top of, taking breaks and making sure not to overdo things. I do have my moments of stubbornness though, but not often.
By older hens I meant the two year olds, as it was suggested by other posters. I have fibromyalgia, so starting with chicks isn't exactly a good option for me. If they stop laying in a few months or even a year after, that's fine. I plan to keep my hens as pets too, besides making good pest...

For someone like myself who has fibromyalgia, getting the chickens to turn the pile sounds much better than relying on someone else to turn it for me! How fantastic of an idea!
