    Rooster Sneezing - Need Advice

I'll get some of that to have on hand. I am very paranoid of respiratory infections. I've been so lucky to have very few issues to date. Thank you!

    Rooster Sneezing - Need Advice

I think he's doing a lot better this evening. I'll put oregano oil in the water tomorrow since they are starting to roost. I'm not really concerned, as he is acting himself. It will be hot over the weekend, so I'll get the electrolytes out too.

    Rooster Sneezing - Need Advice

Yesterday my Rooster was sneezing. I noticed it while we were all out “free ranging” in the yard in the afternoon. Yesterday’s poop photo attached. He’s a 3 yr old Easter Egger Mix. Always healthy, eating drinking, acting fine. He lives in an open HWC coop with 2-5 yr old hens. We added 12 week...

    dead chickens sad

I am so sorry for all the loss. It has been a few months since my most recent loss a Barred Rock "Cuda". 8 hens down to 3. I have several photos of the ones I have lost that I look at now and again and it makes me smile. They take pieces of our hearts.

Topic of the Week - Heat Sources: Yes or No?

It has been cold for a few days now. Cold for us (South Carolina). We had snow yesterday afternoon/evening. It was 16F last night. I always thought the 3 hens and 1 Roo would do just fine. It's been down to 19 and they were fine. They're ok, but it made me rethink this whole cold issue...

Fly Strike - How bad is it?

She almost always has a poopy butt. I didn't notice it right away this time as one of my other hens was ill and passed. (The barred rock with the "Gout". It must have been that virus that finally killed her.) This hen has not laid an egg in a long long time. Thank you for the information...

Fly Strike - How bad is it?

My 4.5 YO RIR hen has fly strike. I cleaned her and put vetrycin spray on. She's in a crate in the house until she heals. She has eaten and drank water and electrolytes. She screamed bloody murder when I went to soak her, but I think I got all the maggots out. The red spot is of concern. It...

    Tricide Neo Bumblefoot/Distilled water

I think the issue is water has bacteria and organisms in it naturally. Don't use plain tap or well water because its not "pure". Think brain eating amoeba. You can boil water for a minute to kill those (from what Google says). I thought you had to boil it longer, 8 - 10 minutes. There may be...

    Sudden hen death without symptoms

I am so sorry for your loss. It can be hard to find answers without a necropsy. This is your choice.
