    Chicken Suddenly Died

That's interesting about the rigor mortis! I'm not sure how quickly it set in. She was fine when we left at 7:45am but deceased when we got home at 5pm. No idea how much time had passed.

    Chicken Suddenly Died

I can't remember the name, it's made by ADM Pen Pals. A 21% protein crumble feed. Then I give them some occasional corn pieces and some random table scraps, mainly veggies.

    Odd ball chickens

It wasn't too cold yesterday. My hens haven't laid eggs in some time now, a couple of weeks probably but they appear to be molting.

    Chicken Suddenly Died

Sorry for your loss. I came home last night to find one of my hens had died as well. Not sure what could have caused it. They aren't laying at the moment, currently molting. Everyone has seemed fine but she was dead in the yard. Not attacked by anything as she was completely intact. Sad :(

    Odd ball chickens

My goodness, I've had my first chicken fatality. Got home from work last night and one of my chickens was laying dead in their enclosed yard. She wasn't attacked as she was fully intact. Do I need to worry about my other hens? I wonder if this is a transmittable disease? Danger, I didn't realize...

    Odd ball chickens

I have a free evening and weekend coming up so hoping to build a roost inside of the coop as their currently isn't one. Then will start working on training them to roost instead of sleep in the boxes. Thanks for the tips!

Wow these were great articles, thank you! And the post #142...mine are molting but none look like that yet. I have 2 that are almost raw looking and just on the fronts of their necks, and skin looks pretty red. Hopefully it's just their molting. Thank you again!

    Odd ball chickens

Thank you for the info! I will try that for the timer, it sounds like it would be easier than attempting 2 different times. I have a covered riding arena that I just attached chicken wire to the fence panels, they seem happy in there. Only problem is that I lost my riding arena to the chickens...

    Odd ball chickens

Thank you! I do worry about the coyotes. I'll most likely end up just letting the roam inside of their fence only. This is my first experience with chickens and they literally started molting the 2nd week we had them and all I could think was that I broke them somehow! HAHA! Oh the joys of...

It is a plug in. My husband is an electrician, surely he could figure it out if I remembered to ask! haha!

You'd think that'd be an easy answer. YES, there is a timer. I'm still messing with it trying to get it to only come on from 7-10pm and 6-8am. It seems to have a mind of it's own though.

Ok, the only roost we have then is in the run. I'll add one inside of the coop so that they are protected. Makes sense now and seems like an easy fix to the coop. Thanks for the advice!

They are a year and a half old. I will definitely add a roost into the coop. Thank you for the advice!
