I have a beautiful bantam sized white frizzle rooster for sale. He is about 4 months old. I will post an updated with a picture later today. The one here is when he was about 3-4 weeks old. He is very protective of his hens, but unfortunately, we are not allowed to have roosters here...
Yay! My Barred Rock laid her first egg for me on Christmas Eve and has been giving me an egg a day, and now our Buff just laid her first egg today! Woo hoo! I'm so excited to have fresh eggs every day now!
.... I guess it's time to make some pound cake (takes 8-9 eggs) to use up that 18 pack...
Me! Me!!! I got my first egg on Christmas Eve morning from my Barred Rock and the second from her Christmas Day morning (2am... yeah yeah..I was up wrapping presents.)
We have a heat lamp on in there for them since we do have a 3-4 week old silkie in the coop as well at the moment. (Christmas...
So, I'm just wondering how much feed a chicken should be eating in a day? I have a 7 pound feeder, that I have to fill 2 times a week, but I also throw out some feed for them when they come out of the coop. So, I really don't know how much they TRULY need a day. 1/2 cup per chicken???? 1 cup...
I dont' know what's going on with my Polish. Her crown seems to have little white specks along the shafts, but when i inspected the rest of her feathers, they are fine. Her crown doesn't seem to be coming in very even, but I don't know if any of the other girls are picking on her. They don't...
Roost is out. Just out completley. I really didn't work in the bottom section anyway. Now, all that's left is the front doors. I told him that as long as I can open and shut them completely on my own, and that I will have total access, he can make them any way he wants. He's planning on...

Before our 2nd child, we always did these types of projects together. Now, it's just too hard with both the little ones with us at the same time. I mean, seriously, we have completely re-modeled our home, except for our bathrooms which he did before we got together. Just last year...
GAH!!! The bottom roost is in front where the door opens. I now have all of about 4" to work with for cleaning the coop out later on... and he refuses to move it... AAAAUUUGHHH!!!! Guess who will be stealing the cordless drill and doing it herself later on??? I love my husband. I really do...
rotf! I was nice and very nicely asked him how the shavings were going to stay on the top level... He looked at me, and then realized what he did.
I also apologized for 'my' mistake of not reminding him eariler.
speaking of which... I've left him on his own for an hour now... Time to go...
Granted, my chickens haven't started laying yet... BUT, I can think of way worse to listen to. Such as my neighbor's dogs who bark non stop and jump on the metal gate until 3am every night that he works the graveyard shift, which is at least 3-4 nights a week.
I'd still give them the eggs...

Agreed.
By the way, it's a good idea to lock the chooks up in a new coop for a few days, sometimes a week, to make sure they will accept the coop as home and return to it each night.
Agree.
I was planning on keeping them in for at least 3 days, and maybe more. I'll just have to see...
but my dear husband, who volunteered to build the coop to MY specifications, just doesn't listen sometimes.
What part of this is not clear? "I'm doing the deep litter method of coop maintenance. I need a 4-6" lip around all edges and around the hole you cut for the ladder." Never mind that...
