    Catio to Hen House

Here’s the latest. I was finally able to secure some sheet metal roofing panels at a decent price and we have a roof! However, I’m not sure how to put the siding on. The panels aren’t wide enough to cover the full height of the walls, which is fine given out climate, but I thought the roosting...

    Catio to Hen House

Has anyone in a hot/ humid location just used heavy duty tarp to cover their hen house? Thinking the roof and around the sides leaving one end open.

    Catio to Hen House

Thanks, @SourRoses ! I think I'm going to hold off on this for now - struggling to find light weight corrugated plastic that's either a good size, or a good price for multiple sheets. I may end up tarping the roof for now, just to get it up and going. I should have bought those panels before...

    Catio to Hen House

I do plan to move it once I have the yard leveled. It will be kinda heavy, but even after fortifying it we should be able to move it with some help - a person on each side, or pop it up on sliders and pull it with the truck. Thinking ahead, the roost, poop boards, nesting boxes, corrugated...

    Catio to Hen House

Here’s a distanced view of the completed structure. Next weekend we’ll finish the paver base, roofing panels and side panels. Then probably the next weekend the roosts and poop boards and nesting boxes. It’s not where I ultimately want it, but there’s a mess of tree stumps where it needs to go...

    Catio to Hen House

Alright! After about 6 hours and the first serious sun burn of the season. The frame is up! It’s a lot easier to measure and visualize what I want where in person. Hate trying to figure that out from pictures. So here’s what we have so far. It is actually fully built but I was too tired and...

    Sick bird protocol?

She’s not sneezing like she was and I gave her a good check over yesterday… she’s the visual picture of health. Nostrils are clear, skin is clear, good color. The only thing amiss I noticed is another chicken had a lump on her toe that does not seem to be bothering her. Unfortunately, pictures...

    Sick bird protocol?

They’re from a local feed store and they get their chicks locally I think. I know someone who works there, so was able to pull the chicks before everyone had their hands all over them.

    Sick bird protocol?

She’s not new…. They all came together over a year ago. I do have new chicks in a brooder but they’re inside and I’ve cleaned up leaving each area just in case. She’s sneezing pretty frequently. 2-3 times in a 5 minute period, and I noticed it before she was caught. She wasn’t easy to catch and...

    Sick bird protocol?

I had a 2yo polish hen with a caked rear today. Went to catch her to clean her and she’s sneezing too. Acting fine otherwise… eating, drinking, scratching around and fighting over tidbits. No discharge or swelling anywhere, no red skin, no evidence of mites, fleas, etc. I cleaned her up and put...

    Supporting advanced pasty butt

Technically I know this thread is complete, BUT I feel like we reached another milestone and wanted to share. :D She's been so unsettled and feisty and literally falling asleep on her feet and immediately jerking back awake when she starts to fall over. The only way I could get her to actually...

    Supporting advanced pasty butt

She’s going to be ok! She’s acting like a normal baby now, except she acts like she doesn’t know how to lay down and nap. Here’s my little motley, hodgepodge crew of babies now, all together. The sick baby is in the center and has decided the biggest is her new mother and keeps diving under her...

    Supporting advanced pasty butt

The baby seems a bit better. Her poop was much more solid, but still stuck to her. She’s has periods where she seems weaker or stronger. Peeps quite a lot, and her sound is stronger. She’s not really eating though and no interest in dampened crumbles.

This is really helpful, thanks! There's TONS of info on this website, but it can be kinda hard to locate some things in all of it. I definitely want to give this a try for my little ladies.

I'll start giving her some dampened crumbles. I read somewhere around here that raw egg yolk may help give her the boost she needs to get over this. Is cooked vs. raw better? She has a clamp lamp, white bulb, and a CHE for night heat. I've just been adjusting the distance based on the manual...
