    Best Incubator for a Classroom

Looking for a new incubator to use in classroom. I’ve been using a Hova Bator Genesis 1588. I love the reliability and size but hate that the styrofoam is difficult to keep clean. I’ve been considering a dome style table top incubator but need something under $100 but also holds temps reliably...

Newbie hatching Muscovy. Looking for tips.

I’ve hatched chickens and quail for 10 years with success rate in the 90s. But this will be my first time hatching Muscovy. Make sure I have it right. 99.5, 35 days. Now as far as humidity I run my chicken eggs at 25% and really just go by air cells to make sure it’s goid then at lock down I go...

    Help!!! Assisted hatching

There is usually some blood from the umbilical cord. If it is not actively bleeding it's fine. If it is bleeding apply slight pressure until it stops. You may want to give the chicks a few drops of nutra drench or poli vi sol WITHOUT iron. Prefer nutra drench. It will give the chick a bit of a...

    Help!!! Assisted hatching

If it were me I would take a q tip and moisten the membrane and slowly work it off the chick. As you moisten the membrane you should be able to see if blood is clotted off. If you can push the membrane off the chick without a lot of bleeding then do it. I have had a lot of success with this...

    Chick with Broken Leg??

Treating a Chick with a Slipped Tendon: One Chick’s Story I could not figure out how to link the article but search the articles section with this title and it will come up along with pictures. I have had success a few times with this.

    Chick with Broken Leg??

I could not open your attachment, I'm assuming it's a picture. What you're describing to me almost sounds like a slip tendon. I had a chick with that while back. I did an article about it I think I titled it slipped tendon one chicks story. I'll see if I can find it and attach it to this.

    Help!!! Assisted hatching

You did the right thing in stopping. Whenever you see blood during an assist you need to stop. But the bleeding does not mean you hurt or killed it. Wait a bit go out and check. When you do an assist it is important to go very slowly. If you do encounter bleeding I have often stopped it with a...

    Paper towels on floor?

I don't think it's going to affect your humidity. It may absorb some of that liquid but not enough to make a difference. I've actually thought about doing the same thing myself but because I wanted it to be easier to clean the incubator afterwards. I wanted a faster solution. Being able to just...

    RATS

I agree. I think it was probably a snake. I had the same thing happen but instead of eggs the snake actually eight new chicks. It has been my experience that rats will sometimes eat the eggs in the coop. You'll see broken shells and bits of leftover. Snakes tend to swallow them whole.

Day 22, I can hear peeping in the last 2 eggs but no pipping yet. How can I help?

Save a chick or nutra drench are good to give if they hatch weak. I try to keep some on hand at all times. Another good thing to have on hand is Poly-Vi-Sol without iron. When you give these things you can give a couple drops at a time on the side of the beak. You'll see the little chicks...

    Egg did not get turned

This morning the vessels are spread throughout the entire egg. I don't see movement but everything is spread out now. At this point I'm just going to leave it and I'll update you as to what happens. I just hope the chick is not charged malformed.
