I have to be more careful. Really feel bad. Having two kept each other company. This one will follow me and will chirp loudly at my feet wanting me to hold it. Tail feathers coming out. 1/2 " in length. Colors coming in the wings.
Thanks. Nothing made to house them. They are feral. The hen that laid 5 eggs is the one in the center of the pic. She is pretty bossy. The one on the right comes back to this shelf and 8 chick sleep with her. There is a step ladder next to the shelf so the chicks can go up each step. The one on...
Two more hens found a place to nest. I saw before that the rooster had wis with the nes I guess to show a pace to make a nest? he did that with both hens. These are up about 8 feet in the car port. The brown and whith hen I thing has more that 12 eggs since she can't sit on all of them at once...
Chicks got seperated from their mom. Most likely fell from the big Mango tree. Chicks are doing well. If I can't see them I'll call Chew, chew, chew, or Buck, Buck, Bahhh. And they come running to me. They also go up to me to rest or take a nap.
Well, I bought the starter food and they didn't like it. They prefer the small seeds and the poultry treats - defend immune support formula. They really like the dried fly larvae. Sometimes I have them loose and they will peck on small bugs. They will chase a live one and eat it.
Thanks. I ended up not getting a heat lamp. They are doing fine so far. I took care of a injured chcik before thes two. Food I got them has some dried up bugs, seeds, herbs plants. They are now scratching for the food. Run around, and flap their wings. They eat quite a bit. Inside the house...
Yes they are. I am on the east side of the Big Island- Hawaii about 7 miles from Pahoa. Pic below only shows a portion that comes around 3 times a day. Some are very friendly.
I think I saw the mother hen with about the same size chicks. She came around the other day.Other hens didn't like heror the chciks One hen pecked the chick and the mom came up t o chase it away and got into a little fight. The big rooster came over to break them apart. The hen with the chicks...
I fed the feral chickens with chicken scratch that has various seeds and small bits of corn. Most a little too big for the chicks. The chick have feathers on their wings. Night tems here low 70's.
I agree if I see the mother then she won't take her chicks back since its been too long. No sign of the mother hen yet.
As for food, I have been giving them small crumbs from a slice of french bread, english muffin, cooked white rice, shredded wheat bits.
Heat soruce when I am not around...
I guess about 5 day now? I heard some chirping in the very back of the yard near the big Mango tree. It would stop and I waited till it chirped again. I went there and found a newly hatched chick. No mom around. I looked all over. so I picked it up to temprarily look afer it. Mostly black and...
I think so or breed them to sell. What they do is walk around with a rooster that has a rope tied to its leg then spot a rooster to have a fight. As the thief pulls the rop, the rooster he wants gets closer and then gets him.
There are some that raise roosters for a living. They sell them...
