I’ll keep that one too. I only need two. I actually have a flock of 8 hens that I keep at a friends house. They get to have chickens and I pay for the feed. One rooster will go there and one here. Plus I have another batch of cockerels to go through soon.
Here are four cockerels I’ve got, they’re 3 months old. I actually have more but the best ones is in this picture. What do you guys think of them. I like the bird in the middle the most but I know nothing about Marans.
Eggs hatched today. I looked in and saw a blue chick and some brown. These are black copper eggs. I knew something wasn’t right. I sent a picture to the breeder and they had been breeding olive eggers and thought they had their rooster out long enough. Nope, they’re all mutts. Luckily a buddy is...
I wish I had an absolute answer. I do know that leghorn eggs lose moisture faster than some. I’ve been hatching Marans and those thick shelled puppies do not lose moisture near as fast.
In the winter my house humidity is probably 15-20% and always under 30. I still don’t add water until day 18. Hens in Phoenix, Denver, Death Valley, etc., all hatch chicks with no humidity. But I know plenty of people add water and have great hatches so I don’t know the answer lol.
