    Orpington Genetics/Breeding

I wish I could but this thing won't let me attach pics. But here we go....is Isabel Cuckoo Buff and Lavender in color or is it pale yellow and Lavender in color? It's pale yellow because Lavender dilutes the red in the Crele to yellow and dilutes the black in the Crele to Lavender. There is no...

    Orpington Genetics/Breeding

You're way above your head for a newbie, those patterns are difficult even for the more seasoned breeder. I'm assuming your Buff Columbian is Blue Buff Columbian. I made Chocolate Columbian this year on accident but now that I figured out the genetics, i can roll with them. Buff Cuckoo and not...

    Orpington Genetics/Breeding

How barring was explained to me and I've proven to be true is this.... Males have double barring because the females give one barring gene only to male offspring while the rooster gives one barring gene to all of his offspring. As far as mixing patterns....you can get some really cool stuff...

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I'm a bit late with this but I've been super busy with all of my English Orpingtons. I was able to create a new color in them....Red Mottled. They took five generations to remove all of the black in them but definitely worth all of the work. I'm now up to about 15 colors and patterns....I love...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I bred chocolate Orps for a while, great lines. My girls were aging out so I bought some replacement girls from another line. The new line matched up perfectly with mine, type, color etc. Well to make a long story short....all hell broke loose. I have white(females only) with the same eye and...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Can you explain what Dun is? I mean appearance, where it comes from, and what's it's effect on offspring color. I've seen threads where it appears white, khaki, or mauve. I'm so confused.

English Chocolate Orpingtons and a Dun Gene?

All I was trying to say is they look similar. And when you try to do research on it all that comes up for Orpingtons is Dun looks and acts like recessive white. I have to keep these chicks banded because as a new hatch they're identical to my Mauves. Okay next question, why are they hatched...

English Chocolate Orpingtons and a Dun Gene?

Does anyone even know what dun looks like, I see different threads about it but have only seen it in other breeds, which look like my Mauves. Just confused on this whole Dun thing.

English Chocolate Orpingtons and a Dun Gene?

Is it possible for two chocolates to produce what appears to be mauve but then feathers out a cream white color? Recessive white? Hen is the mother of the rooster.

    Dun gene in English Orpingtons

I have recently bought two chocolate English Orpingtons, mother and son. The breeder, very prominent, sold them to me because they were producing what she called Dun offspring. Does anyone have any experience with this? I also bought the offspring, which looked Mauve until they started winging...
