    I should have intervened

Right, it’s all speculation at this point. I’ll keep everyone updated. On a more positive note, all of the others have settled into their brooder and are doing great.

    I should have intervened

Yes, and no. It kicked itself out but couldn’t without me first dampening the the membrane that was stuck to its feathers. Because it was in the egg so long it now has a crooked neck and can’t walk. It tries but flips on its back. I found a good thread on here that shows how to prop it up right...

    I should have intervened

I helped as much as I was comfortable and put it back in the bator. Hopefully I did it in time. It’s chirping but not as much as it was. The one pic with the less egg removed is what the chick managed on its own and the other two are what I did. I used a warm damp paper towel to keep the egg...

And I think your right. They don’t appear to be wet as much as just having goo on them. In fact, one still has a piece of egg shell stuck to its head.

    I should have intervened

Good morning everyone, Thanks for the replies. I just got up and checked on the other and the hole is bigger but it’s still not really getting anywhere. I wondered if it was because I had it upright but I’ve seen several people on here have success with that method and shipped eggs. It is lively...

    I should have intervened

Hi all, I am presently hatching my first batch of chicks in an incubator. Usually I let my hens do the work but for various reasons was unable to this time. I read a ton of posts on here discouraging intervention in the hatching process. I resisted the urge to help this chick and have...

    My Baby Chicks

I had 7 "chickie babies" from Meyer Hatchery, 3 White Leghorn, 3 black Austrolorp, and 1 Golden Buff chicks. I say had because unfortunately I lost one of the little ones when she flew out of the brooder into my garage at just a week old. By the time I came home from work she was no where to be...

Help # 3 week old buff orpington not stopped eating for 5 days and not doing well.

If your temperature is right I would also suggest checking her vent to make sure she doesn't have pasty butt. That will stop them from eating. If she does you can clean it with a warm damp rag. The cocci treatment is a good recommendation. I've also heard of some chicks ingesting the pine...

Help # 3 week old buff orpington not stopped eating for 5 days and not doing well.

I would say the very first thing to do would be to double check your temperature. You should have a heat light on one corner and it should be around 95 to 100 degrees F. You can also try putting a heating pad under it. Hope she gets better. I lost one of my babies this week and it sucks. Mine...
