Just to give an update, her leg condition hasn’t worsened but it’s not normal. She seems happy and content even with her little disability so I let her live her life! I think the sling, etc at least stabilized her leg for a few days to the point where it could fuse into some position and not...
Unfortunately, she isn’t doing much better. She’s able to hobble around, but now she’s almost lifting her foot off the ground which she wasn’t doing before whenever she is standing. She stopped walking backwards at least so I’m gonna give her another week and make a decision.
I wouldn’t go that far yet! I think it “froze” her tendon in a better position and let the bone heal up but I don’t think the tendon is correctly placed to where she can walk normally. So I think at this point it’s a matter of can she learn to get around enough where it’s not gonna impact her so...
Just to provide update…it seems like her leg stopped bowing out and she’s standing a little more but she’s still hesitant to walk forward or really move (she seems to be trying more and more to go forward but still goes backwards at times). I am gonna give her a few more days.
No, I don’t think it’s wry neck. Her head and neck positioning is strong/fine. I did have 1 other chick out of this batch of 14 that had it and I successfully fixed it with Vitamin E/Selenium. I am thinking she is walking backward due to her leg pain/issue.
Yes it’s a Silkie. Basically she takes steps backwards instead of forward and flaps her wings a little. She can go forward but her instinct is to go backward if she’s stressed or I grab her for example.
Well a change of plans…I ended up taking her out of the sling today. She had been in there 48 hours straight and I was just getting worried about the possible effects. I went to rewrap her leg this AM and just had a bad feeling about going longer. It’s too hard to get her in and out daily so I...
I had to put her in a modified sock today because she kept jumping out of the t-shirt sling and it just wasn’t working. I have her leg lightly taped backward to that hammer so there’s some pressure keeping it back (and so she doesn’t try to use her other leg to jump on the bricks). I’m going to...
Hello,
My 2 month old silkie chick suddenly started displaying leg issues last week. Here are the symptoms:
1. Leg is swollen and bowing outward, specifically at hock joint.
2. Leg is positioned more towards her rear than the other leg.
3. She is limping to not put weight on it and not being...
