I increase protein during molt, and I throw in some oats even though its a low protein, and more of a fiber, but I try to mix it up and usually in about 3-4 weeks, molt is over on my end.
Thats good to know on the 10 minute rule. I talked to Bee about her FF project, and am getting ready to do that with the next batch. I was going to build something to let them out in, but since they are moving so well, maybe I will buy like that green garden fence thats 2-3 feet tall, and just...
are you feeding your cornish 1-2 times a day to get them to free range so late in the game? or are you doing the 12 hours feed on and 12 hours feed off?
A real meat bird cornish, is not going to free range well. For a couple weeks if you are lucky they might scratch around, but even that's not likely. You figure you keep them in a brooder for 3-4 weeks, by the time they come out of that they are probably at least 3-4 lbs,and laziness sets in...
You should not need to worry about predators during the day time so much. If something comes out during the day time, its probably sick or something. A fence would contain the chickens to a smaller area.If a dog comes around, shoot it if it steps on your property as it will kill your birds.

So Arielle,
Do you think if you advertised naturally raised free ranged birds for 3.00 lb thats not to exp? I feed organic, BUT I do not pay the 2,000 for the certification, and was told by the State of Ohio Ag Dept. That it would be false advertising regardless what I feed, unless they come...

Arielle, I agree, the processing really changes the price on the end. I pay 4.00 on average here, and than you add in feed, I have over 3,500 in a coop, gas to drive 50 miles to drop off the chicks, come home, go back the next day 50 miles to pick them up, bedding, feed, and I no im not in order...
I like Meyer Hatchery, they are about 70 minutes from my house. They have a great store and reasonable prices in person. And they do have some charts for what birds eat. I bought leghorns from there. And 1st i will say, MANY birds u buy at a hatchery are not 100% that breed. That's my 1st worry...
