our's used to be the last Monday in Feb, but last year TSC started sending them out according to the part of the country you lived in, so here in the South, we got them early.
go ahead and look, we always go on the first day, even if we are not gonna buy. Love hearing all the little "peeps". WE refer to TSC as "the Chicken Store"
I am in Florence, SC, and our Tractor Supply says their's are coming in on the 17th, last year they came in on Feb. 10th.. Any body else have any dates to report ?
We got Amberlinks last year, and they are wonderful egg producers; all 6 of them lay and average of 6 eggs a week. Ours are white, with just a little brown on them.
We got Amber Links from Tractor Supply, and they are by far the best layers we have, we only have 5 of this breed, but they lay almost every day, probably 28 out 30 days.
The stores themselfs never know what they are getting;; We have got Buff Orpingtons; Silver Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds; Amber Links ( best layers), and Easter Eggers, and also Pekin Ducks in the last two years here in Florence, SC
How often do you change or clean the boxes;; We have seen some of ours will not lay in a box, if there is a mess from another broken egg; as soon as we change the cardboard, and hay, they go right back to laying in the box.
Our local store here in SC says the chicks will be here by the end of the month;; I see online that Chick Days starts on the 27th;; We got our's last year on the 28th of Feb. also on a Monday.. Can't wait to see the cute babies..
Amy, we do sell some eggs, for $2 a dozen,, and just for information;; We had been getting 3 to 5 eggs a day, ( from 15 hens) and after only 2 nights with the light on,, we got 8 today;; but we decided to disconect the light anyway.
thanks everyone for the replies; Amy; I read your link;; I think I will just let nature take it's course; I will take the light out tomorrow, don't want to wait several weeks to see any increase in egg production; We still get more than we can eat now; We will let the hens get some rest from laying.
Amy;; Last night was the first time ;; just put the light in the coup last night;; Thanks for the reply;; I had no idea if it would be a couple of days before there was a difference, or if it would take a long time.. I set mine to come on around 6 pm, and go off at 10 pm;; Wonder which is...
Last winter, our chickens never slacked off with the eggs laying;; This is their second winter, and they are molting, for a couple of months, plus the shorter hours;; I was reluctant to add artificial lighting, but I did it last night for the first time;; Now, my question;; how long will it be...
yes; I've done it two years in a row; They can eat the same food, and the ducks will grow much faster than the chicks, and will be bigger than they are in a couple of weeks. Good luck
