    My hens ate essentially the first stage for most of my compost (minus coffee grounds and moldy whatnot). What they don't eat mixes into the leaf litter and attracts wee critters which they do eat. I also teach and have started bringing home the waste from student lunches - lots of fruit...

    Oh, I should mention that I live in Los Angeles and would be really greatful if anyone knows where I can buy adult female coturnix quail. I was so greatful for the help finding my first quail and now really want more. Much thanks!!!!

    I need more quail but unfortunately Pet Source 1901 says that they don't have them anymore :( (one person I talked to said they will be hatching more the other said they hadn't carried them in over 6 months).     Much thanks! Of course now she has decided to go broody and spends all day in her nest of leaves wagging her tail at my hens and making squeaking noises. I keep stealing the eggs but that has not dissuaded her. We have no interest in ducklings, nor do we have a drake around to make it happen so...

    Soup is definitely a girl and check out the size of her first egg!!!!!! Oh and did I mention that she has grown into the sweetest of all of our ducks! Thank you all for your help determining that she is a she!!!!

    She has also turned into the sweetest of our three ducks, follows me around (she is the only one of our birds that can fly out of the run and so is completely free range when she gets bored of the flock) and loves to just sit in my lap and hang out.

    Soup has definitely grown into a lovely "She" - thank you all again for putting my mind at ease! I will have to find a pic to upload - I think she is gorgeous black irridescent green/purple feathers on her body with a mottled white head.
