I don't think leaving the rocks is problem, this will give your run a more natural look and your chickens might love it.Just make sure you at least have a place for dust baths with no rocks
I always thought it was the norm to get hens and roosters to be rare until i joined BYC.
I searched on the internet on how to get a rooster from your hatch and i was actually surprised to find out that no one likes roosters and everyone was looking for a way to get more hens not rooster.

i have read on many articles on the hen to rooster ratio you get after hatching and everyone seems to say its almost 50/50 and likely to be more males than females.
But........ITS JUST NOT THE SAME HERE

i live in zimbabwe and here it seems like hatching a rooster is the hardest thing. Not only to me but to almost all chicken keepers i know, the probability of getting a rooster out a hatch of 10 chicks is close to zero. Roosters here...
The chicken was actually a new member that i wanted to introduce to the flock, and it died while it was still under quarantine. My main flock of 1 rooster and 5 hens is still in perfect health
Thanks a lot, I'm from Zimbabwe. I will use bleach.I read on several sites that the virus lasts for about 7 days outside the host in summer and i think its 2 months now since i last used the coop and we are currently in summer right now.I will clean the coop one more time then spray the bleach...

light sussex breed and i feed all my chickens a mixture of cracked corn and pearl millet/bulrush millet and sunflower seeds mostly. And yes the rooster is mounting then hens
