My suggestions is, put the nest boxes inside of the cope and close the area where they were removed from. Anything outside of the cope can and will be destroyed, eventually. Hope this helps.
GREAT pictures! I'm so very glad we don't have bears in our county. We have fox, wild turkeys, opossum, skunks, wild ducks in winter, wild geese, one jack rabbit (all I've seen) AND neighbors dogs. There has been reports of Bob Cats and Mountain Lions nearer to the hill areas but none here!!
Oh, so sorry for your flock loss. I know how you must feel, I had neighbors dogs tear into my free range chickens. Young layers, easy going. Had to put a couple down they were so torn up. Even my bantams that were in their run was affected from hearing and seeing what was going on. Lost two...
I had my chickens outside of their run as usual when, my son called me to come quickly. The neighbors 2 hunting dogs were attacking and killing my chickens. A few ran and hid while others ran in confusion. My son had one of the dogs in his sights but did not shoot as he had not checked with...
Best I've read/viewed yet! My baby chicks arrived with one dead and another dying for being keep in a cold post office. They should make provisions, not just tossed anywhere in the building. This article is very helpful to me if I decide to start shipping birds.
I'm no expert by far but I think I would put Peroxide on the wound several times a day. Then blot it dry with a clean tissue or paper towel. Then apply an antibiotic ointment. When the wound stops oozing/draining then keep using a antibiotic cream until healed. Then apply Aloe Vera Jew a...
I suggest perhaps use Aloe Vera gel on the wound several times a day. One of my cats was possibly chased by a predator one night and she ran under our garage door for safety. The door ripped off a large piece of her hid, it was oozing and looked very painful. It was about a 3x4 inch piece...
Well, with my hens, an old tire without the rim makes a good dust bath, an occasional egg laid in one. They like a thin board stuck into the wire at a corner, good outdoor roosting. Other than chasing a bug around the outdoor run they are dead heads when it comes to play. Dust bath, roost and...
I've run out of options of having a rooster for my hens. These past few years the roosters have turned mean and attacked me and my husband. Some we have even raised from chicks and have given them lots of attention. Anywhere from a large rooster to bantam's. Do we not have enough hens to...
My chickens actually WAIT for me to tuck them back into their house for the night. If it gets dark before I make the rounds to them they usually have already headed in. I use treats in their coup for a nightly roundup. Works like a charm. I too have a straggler that waits until the last...
