While i know that is true in most cases, i have found my bantam cochins And my ee chicks to always redden early. And the first couple times I assumed roo and was wrong. I have learned to identify better by size of comb and shape of tail feathers
Too early to tell, but my first opinion as of now is all pullets, even though the one is redder than the others in comb area. If u post a closer up of tail feather develpment and face/ comb waddle development then ill be more sure. Im usually 85% accurate in my guesses :-)
One baby duckling died in shell, appears to have drowned from some fluid in the egg... The other is still absorbing the yolk (making swallowing movements with its bill and resting a lot in between) hoping to have my second duck baby out and into the brooder with the other one by end of today
My duckling once pulled my nose ring right out of my nose and swallowed it. She was less than a week old at the time, she is now over 3years... she was perfectly fine.
One duckling has hatched!!! The 2 others have pipped but are very clearly not done absorbing the yolk. So excited, as these were shipped and its my first try with duck eggs!!!
Totally normal for silkies- that's why if you are breeding for color, you should wait till they are about one year to breed them. The "bleeding" colors don't usuayus appear until they are fully mature and getting their mature feathers in. I have had this happen more than once.
Right now I also have 3 silkie eggs (from my own birds) and then 3 shipped welsh Harlequin duck eggs on lockdown. Plus I left the Cochin bantam eggs in to give them a couple more days, but candling still looks like they are all quitters.
Meet my two bantam Cochins who have hatched... Two out of like 12... Terrible hatch rate, but I'm happy to have the two. For shipped eggs... I'll take it. The lavender one is the one I assisted, who I have named Skittles, and the beautiful little Fleur Mille baby I have named Reece's.
I just keep telling my husband that I'm going to sell some of them and that's why I need to hatch so many.... He totally is" buying what I'm selling..." So.... You know. The more the merrier. He does keep insisting that maybe we need to think about selling my Labradoodle puppies though... Cause...
Here is my updated: came home from work this evening and one mile fleur Cochin bantam had hatched on it's own, while the other little bantam that had pipped more than 24 hours earlier, had made little progress, so I helped it out. It was pretty stuck to the membrane at that point. It is now...
Came home to one external pip. This is for the bantams that are due tomorrow. I currently have 3 incubators going with 6 staggered hatches expected over the next 10 days or so... Alot to juggle :-) can't wait for my fuzzy butts!!
Okay y'all... So tomorrow is actual hatch day ( day 21) but I am even more impatient this hatch then usual... Reading along with all if you... Just eggs me on..if you will. Impatiently waiting for new fluffy butts!!
