I am waiting to see what color egg she lays, but when next to our other cream legbars she is identical. Except blue. Nothing about her looks different then a cream Legbar except her color. Very strange. She also auto sexed at hatch.
I am new to Cream Legbars. I purchased 2 dozen eggs and hatched them. I kept 3 pellets that are just at point of lay. Should be any day now. The odd thing is I ended up with a "blue" Cream Legbar. I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before or heard of it happening before. I breed blue black...
I believe what you have there is a beautiful splash rooster. If you look a few posts up silkiechicken has a great picture of a blue jg roo. Splash bred with black hens will give you all blue chicks.
Hello everyone, I have a small flock of Jersey Giants (4 blue pullets, and one splash cockerel). I am looking for any leads on a JG cockerel (over 6 months) or a rooster. Preferably blue or black. Our current JG cockerel has been acting aggressive to my daughter and I, and he is only 9 months...
Maybe try Welp Hatchery. We got 28 Red stars end of August and it looked like they had many more ship dates avail. All 28 of our chicks are doing great, not one death, and all have been extremely healthy. I would definitely buy from them again. Oh and their prices include shipping, they were...
If it is still alive try Poly Vi Sol infant vitamins (you can get them at most pharmacies/grocery stores). Make sure to get the ones with NO IRON. Give 3-4 drops morning and night. If it is a vitamin deficiency it should show improvement quickly. Is it eating and drinking? How old is the chick?
Oh forgot to add you can just crush up her pellets with a hammer or rock if you think you need crumbles, you don't have to buy a whole bag of crumbles.
Corid can block the absorption of vitamins and minerals, I would keep up with the probiotics and add some infant vitamin drops. Poly vi sol is a good one, make sure it does not have any iron. 3 or 4 drops once a day into beak. Personally I would skip the treats and hope that she gets hungry...
So sorry to hear about your chick, sometimes they are just weak and no matter what we do they won't make it. Mother natures way I suppose. We have had extremely good luck using Probios in their water from day one. It is concentrated probiotics and works much better than yogurt. I used 1tsp...
You should be fine, you will be surprised how much faster they will feather then during summer. We had a hen go broody last year in November and successfully hatched and raised 3 chicks. Our temps were hovering right around 32 degrees and momma would bring them outside and everything. They...
We are in Washington in the PNW. We had 28 chicks shipped from Iowa (welp hatchery) and they all are doing well, we are into the second week and no loss. I think a lot depends on the health of the stock they came from, definitely you run a little more risk with only 4 because there are not as...
Yes, trust her instincts. She will move when she is sure there are no more that will hatch, and it is time to feed her new babies. Make sure that they have access to a low feeder and waterer.
I agree, chick starter should be their only ration. You can however feed some Freeze dried meal worms as a treat maybe once a day. They go crazy for them once they figure out what they are, and they are 52% protein so a very nutritious snack also. You don't need grit with the meal worms, but...
