    Black Polish?

She was given to me. I had two polish, one died and I didn’t want the other to be lonely so a friend gave me one of hers to keep her company. She got her from a breeder off of Facebook. After looking on Google, I was thinking maybe a Crèvecœur also. Thanks

    Black Polish?

I haven’t noticed a sheen so I’d say solid black

    Black Polish?

I was told this was a 5 week old white crested polish. I knew this was not true when I got him/her because the crest is obviously black. But I have been unable to find any black polishes on the internet so I’m thinking they may not exist. Was thinking it could be a Houdan but it only has 4 toes...

Do chickens began laying before they mate?

We decided that we were going to keep the roosters separate until the babies get older. Today the barred rock started singing the egg song, so she’s close. One roo is a Silkie, so I’m hoping he will naturally just fall back and submit to the Easter egger. But being that the barred rock is the...

Do chickens began laying before they mate?

Thank you for your response. There are 3 chickens in the coop, two are roosters and 10 more that are about 13 weeks that are being introduced housed separately for now (because she is sweet to us, but mean to them). The nest boxes have been explored. The fake eggs end up around the coop...

Do chickens began laying before they mate?

So, today I caught these two love birds physically displaying their affections for the first time. I didn’t think they’d start mating until she began laying. Do they lay before they mate? If so, I can’t find her hiding place. Or, do they mate before they lay? These two are about 23 weeks. Also...

    Thelma Lou or Thelma Roo?

Is my EE and hen or a roo? She/he’s about 13 weeks so no laying or crowing yet.

Abandoned Chicks at the Post Office

Not always. Every winter at least one shipper will ship them on the absolute coldest day of the year. There’s rules and they are not supposed to ship them if they won’t survive the cold and we end up with mostly dead chicks. The company has to work that out with the purchaser.

Abandoned Chicks at the Post Office

I agree. If I understood her right, she was a teacher and got them for her class. She thought they’d be delivered. I said, “no ma’am they don’t ride around all day with the mail lady. You have to pick them up.” I call at 7am when we get chicks. EVERYONE except this customer is always there...

Abandoned Chicks at the Post Office

I’m a postal worker and I’d do that. Who’s gonna get the clerk in trouble? Certainly not the chicken owners. But it’s true, it’s mail and we can’t just give it away or take it home ourselves. That’s a fireable offense. But I literally had a customer the other day say “can’t I just come and get...

What breed and gender are these?

Thank you!! I sure hope so. I thought the gray one was a female because she’s smaller but the other is bigger and maturing faster. Glad to know they are still Thelma Lou and Helen and I don’t have an Andy and Barney 😂

What breed and gender are these?

I bought 4 chicks from TSC. Two are barred rocks and two were supposed to be NH reds. When neither of the chicks turned red, I looked on the internet and came across pics of Americana’s or EE that looked identical to mine as babies. Are these Americana’s/EEs? I know they aren’t reds 😂 they are 4...
