    Thank you for such a detailed response. Mine have an enclosed yard. I have only three layers right now. The Barred Rock and the Cream Crested Legbar are both laying as expected. I have seen some feathers... I'll take a closer look at her overall appearance and behavior.

    She was laying medium/dark brown eggs with speckles for several months, but seems to have stopped. It has been about a month with no eggs from her. Has anyone else had this occur? Do Copper Marans require more light than other breeds?

    I'm finding it difficult to find a source of chicks in small quantities (5, and ideally of different breeds) that are already vaccinated. This will be my first flock, not additions to an existing one. Can anyone recommend a hatchery or other supplier, or will vaccination only become an issue...

    I was glad to see your post about artificial grass. I found a place in Western Washington selling remnants and used turf. Have you tried putting them in a washing machine?
