Hey everyone! Sorry to be a downer but I haven’t been on here much since my two girls passed away. One died peacefully in her sleep, and the other was taken by a fox recently. Missing them lots now… Just wanted to say thank you to those who have helped me out as a new duck owner on this...
It only took a few days. She was significantly better after laying a soft egg so I think that was the issue. If it's an egg problem, calcium supplements might help, like the liquid calcium gluconate mentioned above or crushed up calcium citrate pills.
I don’t know how to make a shoe/boot, but I will definitely try. We have all the supplies needed for bumblefoot and the b complex too - will post a picture of the bumble when I’m home.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had to treat bumblefoot, but this time seems far worse than usual. Yesterday one of my pekins started to scrunch up her foot and start walking with the top of it (as seen in the first picture below). She is already overweight and we have just started water therapy...
I don’t have either of those… I put oyster shells in their feed and occasionally egg shells. Is that enough? If not where can I get the calcium supplements you mentioned?
Update: she did lay a squishy egg today so the nerve issue may have been the problem. After laying it she was able to stand on her right leg. She still limps however, so I will continue with the warm epsom soaks.
Is it obvious when you feel a broken bone? Both legs felt pretty similar but this is a first for me so I’m not sure. She’s almost a year old in one month. There is niacin in our duck feed but yes we have brewers yeast and b complex as well. I’ll try to keep her in a smaller enclosure as well...
