Thank you all in advance; this is my first experience with a sick chicken. Per my research, it appears my chicken has bumblefoot, which apparently I have to surgically remove. I have posted pictures. Could you please confirm and offer any suggestions? I don't want to make a mistake if I can help...
The cameras just don't operate when it gets dark. We keep our chickens in a coop and runs at our office and our home is very close by. I like to check on them at night. I'm wondering if there is a light that maybe chickens are not sensitive to? Or, will a small nightlight bother them?
Hi All! Finally realized that my rotatable cameras in my coop shut down because of dark, which is when I want to check on my brood! I don't want to disrupt their sleep patterns but my camera needs some form of light to operate. Does anyone have any suggestions on some form of lighting that...
My cream legbar, Chip is now 7 months old; still waiting... Her smaller flockmate, Dale, also a cream legbar, started laying at about 6 months. I keep looking for hidden eggs in the yard! All my girls use their boxes to lay. Chip doesn't even look inside the nesting boxes! But she is really...
My rooster's comb has turned dark in the back. He is about 5 months old. He does not appear to be in any discomfort. I don't think it could be frost bite. Our coop never went below 45 degrees. Is this possibly a heart issue? Or just a fluke? Any suggestions would be welcomed. TIA.
I am dealing with the same issue. My Bertha used to be the queen. She was not always nice and was not too nice to our rooster who is younger than she. When Roo got old enough to act the Rooster, he did well with all the other 6 hens, but Bertha is terrified of him. She was staying in the nesting...
I would at the very least open the crate door so they can go in and out as they wish. If mama is doing her job, she will protect the chicks from the rest of the flock. I had a broody "surrogate mom" hatch 3 chicks and I kept them protected from the flock with a baby gate. They had a triangular...
I thought about that but my littles literally freak out when I try to get near them. Not sure what they'd do at nighttime. I might try. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Everyone,
I have 6- 9 month old chickens and 3 - 7 week old chickens who hatched from one of the first group. The littles have tried to roost but the elders knock them off. There is plenty of room. I have even added another roosting bar just a bit lower than the one the elders roost on but...
