Do you not have any vets that will take birds?
Birds in a flock will usually kill a weak member, and not for nothing, it sounds like your girl isn’t good.
I hope everything works out.
He’s home now for almost a week, he’s living in the run (with a small shelter available but he prefers to roost on top of it).
He’s not used to being handled or having a lot of human interaction, hes mostly scared with new things.
I spend hours a day outside his run (hopefully we’ll have his...
This cockerel is nigh on a year old (August I believe).
We bought him and 5 others for our neighbors after their chickens were obliterated by predators.
We have no chickens, we are building a 10x 16 run and a 10x10 house for him.
He will need friends. I have been told he will gouge my eyes out...
I don’t have an opinion, so your saying “learn from the people who agree with you” is an affront. And I don’t need that in my life.
I don’t know what sort of rooster I’ll get for a flock, but I do know what I know of him. He’s biddable, sweet, friendly, nonplussed by new experiences.
Because his...
I’m 100% in love, he’s such a sweet boy
I grew up having parakeets and parrots, but they were kept in cages. I love birds and their dinosaur ancestry, I try to support wild birds and photograph them-which is surprisingly helpful to scientists.
I’ve never had a bird because I would never have a...
He’s an Easter Egger, he’s so quiet and kind. Not at my house, yet. :/
His family calls him scratchy or scrappy, but my dog’s nickname is scrappy do.
I think he’s very handsome.
I reckon the difference between you and me in regards to roosters is I’m saving a very sweet boy and planning a flock for him. All pets.
I can promise you I’m not afraid of a little bird, ever.
Is the only solution killing the bird? Is anyone trying to understand the bird’s natural instincts?
I’ve worked with wild animals, including wild birds, reckon I don’t scare easy.
And I also feel that if I can’t build a rapport with an animal that makes it so I can at least be safe with it and...
A turkin/silkie Roo (what maybe a pound and a half) is ominous disaster?
I think a large part of the problem is byc people don’t want or have roosters, don’t educate themselves, and act like an at most 8 lb bird will kill them.
