My broody grabbed eggs while I was on vacation. The ones that I knew went in on 1/4/25 hatched in the past two days. There are 3 that look completely dark, but not seeing any movement. I don’t know what day she grabbed these so I don’t know when to expect them. I also can’t really see any veins...
Question. My Blue Andalusian hen (far left in pic) is the first to start laying out of all of my 24wk old hens. She has laid about 4 eggs since Wednesday, but all day she goes just in and out of the coop to the run and then lays down in the nest box and repeats it over and over. She lays her...
Yes he has vision in that eye. But it does look like he doesn’t open it as much as the other one. His crest also flops that way pretty bad and I think it does obscure his vision. I cannot figure out why his crest is falling that way either. I don’t feel any masses on top of his head but it’s...
I guess it could be. I just can’t figure out what would be causing the excessive scratching and his crest flopping over that way. My boyfriend seems to think it’s been this way for weeks, so I want to rule out any bug bites. It’s a mystery!
Right! Yes, he is. I just let them out to free range and he came flying out and is happily crowing. Though he is still scratching a lot at that side of his face. I feel bad. I guess I’ll give it a little bit and then do a quality of life re-evaluation if I don’t get any answers. I don’t want him...
We did a thorough search through every pin feather and there’s nothing we see. I can’t even really see much swelling in his head either; but I assume there must be some to leave his crest so lopsided. It’s remaining a mystery. Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
We don’t have fleas or ticks here or many of the diseases in the lower 48 due to our cold year-round temps in Alaska. :/ I checked both ears and both look ok and not swollen. It’s just his lacking face color and droopy crest as of now. Thank you for you time trying to help solve this mystery.
I just looked and it doesn’t look like their range includes Alaska :/ thank you for the great idea though! I really appreciate it. Sounds like a nasty thing to deal with!
I am in Alaska, USA. We mostly deal with biting flies, white Sox and mosquitos. Hes the only one affected. I will double check that these don’t have a range that reaches to Alaska. Thank you so much.
Right! If it was his whole face and comb I feel like I would be able to find answers but it’s just that right side. His left side looks great and really red.
