    My mystery chicken

I had a plan to get 2 Orpingtons, one buff and one blue, but I could not find anywhere to get both, so I got my buff Saffron, and next day or so, I was going to drive 100km to get her friend, except we ended up in lock down, again. Poor Saffron was only about 10 maybe 12 weeks old, and...

    Eye injury or ocular mareks?

Looks like ocular Marek's to me too. They can be seemingly totally healthy and have Marek's. Having her in different pen is NOT good enough protection for your flock. The virus is spread by the feather dander, and you would have been spreading around on your clothing and shoes. As well as it...

Can an Ocular Marek's hen ever return to the flock?

Thanks. What color were her eyes originally? And how long from the eye color change to having to put her to sleep?

Can an Ocular Marek's hen ever return to the flock?

Could you please post a link to your other post with the pictures?

    Is this Ocular Marek's?

The eye color might be unusual, but it looks normal NOT diseased. The Marek's eye is described as "pearl" eye. From the pictures I have seen the iris becomes sort of cloudy greyish and the pupil ragged; the hen eventually does not see with the eye.

    Change of one hens eyes

Sadly ocular Marek's is what immediately came to my mind. Has the eye changed at all in the past few weeks? Does it look like it is bulging bit? Has the shape of the pupil changed?

    Bi-color eyes

That was a year ago; I am wondering how is she going. The info about Marek's is so confusing and frightening . I would like to see more pictures to know what is concerning and what is not.

    Feeding chickens only sprouts

When you say "better feeling", do you mean they are fatter or that they told you they feel better? You may as well say that kids fed on processed food are much healthier than those getting varied diet of fresh food. Pellets have been around for maybe 100 years, and even now large proportion...

    Feeding chickens only sprouts

Chickens have been living on grain, grubs and worms, and leftovers for millennia. Pellets are very recent thing. To say that people who do not feed pellets are mistreating their birds is ridiculous. Of course, keeping them confined and feeding only one kind of feed, be it sprouts or pellets...

The ‘I’ve Got The COVID Shot Club’!

Scientists are not clairvoyant; they only go on what in their experience and experience of other professionals is the the most likely outcome. But without modern medicine most of us would not be here. Before antibiotics people were dying from pneumonia or the smallest scratch; high percentage...

The ‘I’ve Got The COVID Shot Club’!

When the virus 1st started spreading, nobody could know for sure how it is going to pen out. Of course the expert could not be all absolutely right about every deatil of totally new virus. It takes time and research to be sure. The countries that ignored the expert advice are in deep ...

The ‘I’ve Got The COVID Shot Club’!

And you are not worried about getting COVID?! The new strains coming out of India are much more virulent; the original one from year ago every infected person was expected to infect another 1.4 people. the UK strain is about double, and the Indian is between 6 - 8!. And about 4 in every...

The ‘I’ve Got The COVID Shot Club’!

And some believe that they will get microchip with the vaccine! SMH They obviously did not see how thin the vaccination needles are, and how big is a microchip. :( I had my 1st shot end of March, having the 2nd in June.

    Whose skull is this?

The molars and premolars look far too rounded to be dog, unless they are worn down. Could have been an old dog .

Can my chickens co-exist with rose bushes safely?

Roses are not toxic, the petals can be eaten, and my girls hang around under my ramblers, and as soon as petal falls off they fight over it. I have very prolific long term flowering "Madam Alfred Carriere" and before I got my chickens, I had to sweep up all the petals of the paving. The...
