I think you're right about the coop being too small for the repeller pack. We have sand in their enclosed house and use deep litter in the coop. Thinking of adding wood chips to their yard (not pictured)? The sun is out today (yay). Per the forecast, we should have a week before more rain is...
The coop itself is roughly 4' x 4'. The entire enclosed house is 4' x 10'. This pic is when the house was just finished last October. We've since added an enclosed covered yard (which is muddy right now but that's another story).

Was thinking the mint smell might help inside the coop. We have dogs plus there are cats and hawks in the area. I haven't seen any rodents, only evidence. Rodents will go inside this plastic box with no bait added?
Recently had a mouse (or rat) wipe out some flower and vegetable seedlings in my potting shed. Potting shed is in close proximity of our coop.
I've cleaned out the shed and placed a 'Victor Scent-Away Natural Rodent Repeller Pack' inside. Not sure it's helping with the mouse issue as I've...
This is an excellent forum with perfect timing. I cleaned the coop early January and it already smells like the litter should be changed. We have eight hens who lay almost every day. We average 6-7 eggs daily.

deep litter method / pine shavings...
When one little issue is resolved another will surely arise!
We have new layers (yay)! One is not using the nesting box, instead laying in the furthest corner of the raised coop. I can squeeze in there daily (if need be) but it's not desirable. Anyway to redirect her? Maybe a box or something...
Live in Central California near Yosemite. In the 20s at night, 40s and 50s in the day. Want to start seeds in the potting shed/greenhouse. Any suggestions?
Appreciate the feedback. Since my post Pearl has turned into a mini Harvey. Both will be rehomed tomorrow. They are my prettiest chickens and I will miss them. It's the best choice for our situation.
Harvey is becoming a bit aggressive towards mama hen. He's being rehomed tomorrow. Will Pearl begin to assert himself once Harvey isn't around anymore? Pearl doesn't crow (yet) and is very timid.
I'm being told now that Pearl is a roo... is it normal for a roo to sleep in a nesting box? We do have one obvious rooster.
