Ok that’s reassuring it’s not just me, thank you. Rest assured Ivermectin was my first port of call. I’m so done with snake oil remedies that don’t actually work and leave my animals miserable for longer.
Hey how do you guys check your geese for mites? I was cuddling my gander when I caught a red mite biting my ankle. I haven’t seen any sign of mites but when I tried to check my boy for mites I couldn’t for the life of me find a place where I could see his skin. Same with my girl. Their down is...
My gander finally picked up what my insane mallard drake Pancake has been throwing down all year. The last straw for the gander was when he stuck his beak through the fence to defend Pancake against my runners who were chasing him away from dinner and Pancake bit him on the beak making it bleed...
For context I asked for two girl goslings so I didn’t have an issue with breeding but it is what it is and I love my goose and gander as they are.
My geese have grown up and are getting it on. They’ve built a nest and are laying eggs in it, so I’ve been swapping their eggs out with infertile...
My ducks and geese live peas and I thought I’d save money buying dried peas from the feed store.
Only, they are not peas. They are field peas, which are apparent a kind of bean.
I’ve tried sprouting them to see if that gets rid of the horrible taste but it doesn’t.
I know uncooked beans are...
They’ve eased off a lot, I think they came from a resource poor environment where they had to compete with lots of other ducks. They still bully him a bit but they now allow him to use their favourite pool so it’s progress. As long as they don’t fight or bite each other it’s ok.
Non-bird people keep asking me what birds smell like because they’ve seen bird owners on TikTok and Instagram talking about how good they smell.
I’ve kept various parrots and a canary over my life and when they’re clean they just smell sort of dusty. I think people think they smell nice because...
I did pin him many times in front of the goose and in the middle of him attacking the goose (so he would know why), but it had no effect. He can’t help himself. They are now separated by a fence and while the duck is furious, my goose is much happier.
Pancake my little mallard drake was bullying one of my geese relentlessly and I’ve followed this people on this site advice and separated them.
So far, success. Also it turns out part of the problem was that they both feel they own me and so I now don’t pet them in each others view.
But now a...
The runners are a year and 2-3 years.
I don’t suppose my drake will ever chill out a bit. You know since he’s a wild mallard with a set breeding period unlike domestic ducks? Or will he just get worse come spring and stay that way
