Our boy is recovering good. We did notice this white patch under his eye that is going around his beak now. Is this from the fight and something we should be treating? Does anyone know what it is?
You are exactly right on that. He doesn't have a coop and doesn't buy food. He says that he can't afford to buy them food. They literally roam all over the neighborhood.
I am not aware of it if my neighbor raises them for cockfighting. I think he genuinely wants a farm but doesn't have the resources to do it. That is why we are having problems in our area. It is not the birds fault but the humans fault so we can't punish them. We were not aware they were game...
I have not taken any of the birds without their permission. I bought the first set of orphans from him so that they would not be on their own as he suggested and he gave me the one that was injured in this fight. I am not sure where you got that I took anything. I have done nothing but take are...
They are in a coop to themselves. It is one of the kinds that has the roosting house up a little and they can walk out in front of it and underneath it. The holes are super tiny but I do worry about these free roaming roosters. I do have one silkie rooster. He has a crooked beak so he can't...
He used to have Rhode Island Reds too. I think that flock may be a mixture of the RIR and the Game roosters. Will the game roosters try to fight ones that are not other game roosters? We have another coop that has 3 silkies in it. They are more like pets but they would not stand a chance against...
They were called by several neighbors last year after their brand new car got scratched up with the chickens jumping all over it and animal control said they do not have the means to do anything with chickens. :(
Exactly! There is one hen that has 11 right now that was born last week and another one that has 7 that was born a couple weeks ago. The hens are constantly trying to dig holes around our coop to get the babies food I am assuming that is in the coop. We feed them but they forage all day. There...
I hate to shoot them. We are such animal lovers. I really wish I could just have the authority to give them to one of the farmers that we found. We got started with chicks with his orphans. There was a bunch of 8 babies that lost their mother when they were about a week old. He said to leave...
We are putting up an 8 foot privacy fence and hope that will keep most of them out. I have read that 6 foot is the norm but we are going 8 foot so that our few chickens can at least run around their own yard without fear of having to fight.
