I have 3, 2-year old, Rhode Island Red hens. Their eggs are all the same, and always have been like this. They have thin-ish shells and when you break them in a bowl or pan the yolks break 60% of the time. Now, it's remotely possible that they break because they clip a jagged piece of shell as...
Hey! I totally spaced and didn't check back...but Meanie is 100% back to normal! About 3 days in the house and given the calcium, and little yummies to eat, and she was back to being her mean self, most annoyed and indignant at being handled.
We put her back in the coop, and she's right back...
I dont know what's wrong with her. I tried googling just what her poo looks like and one possibly was severe Coccidiosis. Og course there was also results that suggested cancer and infection.
All I know is I cant keep her in the bathroom forever. But I don't want to put her back in the coop...
I don't know for certain what's going on with my hen. I was sure it was a broken, soft shelled, egg. But she's still not eating. She seems to feel a bit better, but she's had 1 bite of egg and 1/4 of a grape since FRIDAY.

Thank you. Once I get her to eat and i can tell her its better, I'll put her out in our "broody prison" attached to the coop where everyone can see each other. She's only been away one day.
Thanks again. She is more herself today, and actively resisted being picked up, which is far more her norm. She appears to be drinking the nutri-drench a bit and is pooping. Not sure what it should look like, considering she hasnt eaten since Thursday, but I'm just glad to see anything. Again...
She's in my house, in a crate, so she's warm and fine there. She's nearly 4 years old. She'd basically stopped laying for winter about Thanksgiving. Then gave us 4 to 6 eggs in early January and stopped again.
We've noticed all our eggs are fairly thin shelled from all our hens which is odd...
So my hen isn't eating and I don't think drinking for a day or two. I went ahead and caught her and brought her in the house today, gave her a soak and washed her very yellow crusted bottom. I believe this is soft egg shell, maybe?
I'm not sure what to do to treat her. Since she's not eating...
For tonight I caught her just at dark and did put her away from the others in our "broody hen pen". While she wasn't happy about being caught, she definitely didn't fuss about it the way she normally would. I gently felt her lower abdomen and it didn't seem firm or swollen at all. I gave her...
My hen is nearly 4 and seemed fine yesterday. Today I went to check on them and toss some cornbread as a treat, and she wouldn't touch it. She loved it yesterday. I caught her (unusual in itself) and her crop was not protruding, I could feel her breast bone, and when I went to feel her vent...
Is there anything I can do for him right now? I had someone tell me to use a crock pot instead, so the water would be actually warm, but wet is wet, right?
I could go buy a different waterer, one like this...would he be less likely to get wet with it?
