I think she's moulting... at least her tail is getting awfully bare. It's hard to tell really, what's falling out and what's been pulled out. Fingers crossed. She's also stopped laying, but that's worrisome, a she's standing like a penguin again... but that started today, so maybe it's from...
Hey all. I'm never catching up.
Meanie is now regularly laying on the darn floor. As head hen she's failing miserably in teaching the Red Squad good laying manners. I added some depth to their boxes today, maybe that'll help. Honestly, 4 boxes for 3 laying hens and Eenie is the only one polite...
In 2020, I spent 10 days in the hospital, 6 in ICU, respiratory and renal failure. Yeah...WAY worse than the flu. Missed 7 weeks of work and wasn't back to normal for nearly a year. The one thing that didn't happen was loss of taste and smell.
But now, chickens.
I've missed soooo much. You...
I guess we'll have to resort to the saddle. The poor thing. Her wings seem to get the worst of it.
We haven't had a rooster since December! But she didn't moult last year at all. I keep praying she does this year.
Greetings all. I have good news and bad news today.
Good news first:That brown egg is Sheba's! She laid in the nest for the first time since we moved them! Yay!
Bad news is also Sheba. Maybe she's finally moulting, but she just always looks so bad. Today I caught Meanie pecking at her wings...
Hey all! Take 4 days off and miss 40 pages of posts! I'll catch up later. Hope all has been well.
The chickens survived. The door remains operational. Sheba flatly refuses to lay in the nests! She's making me nuts. I mean, what's wrong with them? Maybe they need to be deeper? I could add...
I pretty much made the hen house! He'd agree...he's actually not all that handy. I called a plumber to hook up our dishwasher! :lau
Still a keeper though. :D
We are everywhere!
My husband, at 56, has decided to learn blacksmithing. He has two forges, anvils, etc. now. So far he's mostly done tent stakes and s-hooks...but it's a start. There's always something old to learanvil,

Renfaires are how we got into reenactment. The local SCA group was doing a combat demo at the little fair we put on, and my husband, who's gotten into making chainmail, repaied something for someone. Next thing I knew, I was an officer! LOL! That's been a pattern. He had volunteered to do a...
You know, I've never gone to one of those restaurants. My husband and I did help put on a small, not for profit, renfaire put on by our local library for years. It was awesome and our jousters were spectacular.
A real SCA experience is very different. There are no spectators at our events...
Not so much putting on a show, like a renaissance fair, though I've done that... we're a bunch of needs recreating the middle ages.
This is what we do. https://www.sca.org/
This weekend is Kings Company of Archers. Archery all day. Here's a picture or two of my hubs and friends and even one...
