    Rooster left with only 1 hen

    After a tragedy yesterday, we have only 1 grown hen to 1 RIR rooster...my question is will the rooster now try to mate with the other pullets in the coop which are not quite old enough or will he just torture the 1 hen that's his age? How does a rooster know which hens are "ready" to mate?

    Unfortunately, they were attacked by a dog. I will never let my chickens free range again!! We had 2 hens so I'm looking for 2 hens or either a pair. Thanks so much for your response. Do you have any other breeds for sale? We live about 45 min. from you!

    We lost our favorite hens yesterday. They were Delawares and they had awesome personalities. My 8 year old daughter is heartbroken and wants to find another one soon! Please let us know if anyone has any for sale!
