I love the pine shavings in the covered part of the run..I sprinkle Garlic powder, basil and parsley and other herbs and turn it every day...Garlic powder keeps the flies away...
Does sand box sand really have harmful effects? is it really cleaned with glass...? I am so confused... I got construction sand yesterday from Lowes...Not the kind to set pavers. I like the play box sand the best but do not want to harm my girls if they eat it for grit. They liked it better...
My eggs usually are clean ...I collect eggs every day and once in while one out of 10 might have a spot or two of soil on them. I just wipe with a clean damp cloth or put under cold running water and dry. I never wash, wash them...It is better to leave the coat on them ...My girls do not sleep...
I read that sand box sand in cleaned and filtered with glass...In that article it sand try to avoid using it and only use construction grade sand for coop and run...Or any where your chicks take their sand baths... Have you heard anything or read anything similar?

I have 10 hens...they have 12 nesting boxes, but have always all layed their eggs in the same box...Today when I went to gather eggs...there were none in that box...they had all picked a new box at the other end of their coop to lay in...can anyone tell me what could have triggered that?
