If the tails looked ragged and the fish have some white looking spots on the tails, fins ect... it is probably ICK. You can get medicine from the fish store to cure this. The new fish probably bought this with them from the store, or just the stress of the new tank mates can cause this. Sorry...
I grew up on well water and now I only have well water, and I have never had a problem, I love the taste of my water. We do have it checked every 4 years or so, just to make sure.
I also have chihuahuas, I have 2 and they are super friendly, not at all like the typical chihuahua stereotype. They are great with my little girls (10mos & 2yrs) and they have never bothered the chickens. They do love to bark, but I can live with that.
