So we have a mixed flock of about 40 birds sharing a run, out of those birds we have a buff brahma roo and a white silkie roo. We have several silkies (around 8 that are black and buff in color) who we were trying to breed but it seems like our white silkie roo, named dirty bob, likes the...
You will want something spaced between 12-16" to protect them best. Aerial predators are not dumb and think about getting in, but also ability to fly out without harming their wings from my research. See my post for info. 25 or 50 lb bright fishing line will work best. Attach it to the top of...
I did this and it has worked for us, we had to beef ours up to 50 lb test because of the turkeys. But since we put it up a year ago we havent had any issues with flying predators...
this has worked well for us

eh its ever since their father died 2 months ago who was VERY close with our family we've noticed a difference. I guess we will just have to try and come up with a way to keep our 2 legged friends closer to home, which isnt a bad thing and we should have done from the beginning I guess. We just...
Youre correct that a proper run and fencing would be ideal, and I quote form the original poster
"I cannot build a run for my chickens, so please do not tell me too."
Doesn't leave many options for the OP other than taking out the predator or re homing if allowed by state conservation...
lol its not the hose spraying that bothers me...its more of a human personal relationship with the neighbors as ive asked them before about the chickens venturing over there and even said to their father "you sure they dont mind?" before he died. Its always been a "yeah they dont care" but the...
You can put DE on her neck area without getting it in her eyes, use a glove if or when you do. I read through the entirety of the post, and I too am suspicious at the look of the skin where the feathers were "pulled". Looks suspicious to me. Sounds like youre doing very well at caring for them...
it sounds like shes referring to diatomaceous earth, a good rinsing of that should help. Do you have an area outside that they are able to dust bathe? Putting some DE in that area would help as well if you do
option A- Shoot it. Option B- Foot trap. Depending on your state is illegal to catch and release predators into another location.
EDIT: Also, in some states if you have a "farm" it is legal to protect your livestock...just not against anything that is a "raptor"
not a lot of experience with cats, but I dont know if they would target some of the head specifically. Some of the skin was still intact from what i can see but the comb and wattles are completely gone.
get rid of the chicken wire if you can, grab welded wire wit ha strong gauge, maybe 2x4. Contact the police and share with them the pictures you took and details about the person and their dog.
