Thanks. I understand that it is not advisable to stick to a single breed if I want chicks. Is that not correct? I don't have a broody hen and am not wanting to incubate. Will the hens not take care of the process without me incubating the eggs?
Having had several different kinds of feeders for my flocks over a dozen years, I finally switched to a Grandpa's Feeders automatic feeder and the result has been fantastic. The rats are no longer eating the food and there is little food waste. I fill the container once a week and the rest is...
I have a mixed flock of nine hens and a single Americauna rooster - all young. Two of the hens are also Americauna. How do I go about raising chicks? Sorry this is so simplistic but this is my first time having a rooster in the flock. Thank you.
We had the same issue (see my recent post). I emptied the coop and run, hosed everything down, brushed all surfaces with white vinegar/water and dusted each hen with premethrin. Will repeat in a week's time. Try to catch it before it gets to all hens and all over them (like mine).
My nine hens all act healthy and keep laying well but they have bald patches that do not seem to be regrowing feathers in a way that seems like molting. I have tried DE, supplements in their food, spraying an over the counter anti-microbial spray but nothing seems to work. No rooster. No...
Thank you very much. One thing I don’t understand: They will drink more than a gallon in 24 hours (11 hens). Do I add Wazine when they drink all in the first day or go to plain water after the initial dose?
Hello. I am about to use Wazine 17 for roundworms. Nine of our hens are full size and two are bantams. How do I dose correctly since they all drink from same water sources? Thank you.
What concerns me isn't wood ash. It is all of the chemicals that get burnt during a fire and that are released into and on the ground. Cars are melted near the house. Fertilizers, paint, household chemicals etc.
We are recovering from the devastating fire in the Malibu area of Southern California. All of our animals, including the hens, are doing fairly well. Since the hens free range in an environment of burn, ash, possible toxins, does anyone know for sure if it is safe to eat the eggs after a certain...
