Little Roo needs a new home - Elkhart, IN area

I got six new chicks this spring to add to my flock. They are about 9 weeks old and are a Silkie/Americana cross. I got them from an Amish farmer and was not too surprised when the little guy started crowing the other morning. I can't keep him as my neighbors have asked that I not keep any...

    Broody Hen

I have a flock of 19 hens (no roosters) and one of them has gone broody on me. This has been going on for over a month now. She does come out to eat and drink (and push the others around some), but spends most of her time in the nest box. I can reach in and get any eggs she happens to be on...

    Diarrhea

Thanks for the input. I think the problem was too much melon. They seem much better today. They showed no other symptoms of any kind of illness, but I will keep a close eye on them.

    Diarrhea

Need a little help/advice. I fed my 5 week old chicks some cantaloupe earlier this week. Now they all have a slight case of diarrhea. Could it be the melon or should I be worried about illness?

    Indiana

Hello from Elkhart! So glad that I don't have that problem. We live on just under an acre. We talked to all of our neighbors and they are all fine with us having them. This is my first shot at this and am hoping to have lots of fun! Good luck to you.

when should my chickens start laying?

I am brand new to chickens and just got my first Cinnamon Queens on Sunday. I am not quite sure how old they are (will be going back to the farm store to find out if they know approximately, my guess is a week or so). I am wondering at about what age I should expect them to start laying? Does...
