7 week old keets are still pretty young. You should wait longer before letting them free range. I keep mine in the coop for 4 weeks (some times longer) and that's after they were in a brooder and then in a grow out pen and finally into the coop. So in other words, mine are a couple of months...
I want to welcome you to the forum and you have come to the right place for answers. I ususally don't post a lot here but right now, things are soooo slow at work so I thought I would answer some of your questions. First, I want to say is that guineas do roam and they may get into the road and...
Ok guys, I know this maybe impossible and you may think I am crazy but here goes ....
I live on a big farm that is rented out to a hunt club during the hunting season. I have pet guineas and a few chickens and there have been no problems with the hunters I guess because they look like guineas...
Bad news. The keet was dead. I wonder if the yolk sack had ruptured and it may have drowned. Can that happen? If it was high humidity wouldn't I be having a low hatch rate and right now 32 of the 40 eggs have hatched and all seem healthly. I usually use a broody hen but for some reason none...
That was a really great read! Thank you for pointing me in that direction. I am at work now but when I get home I will do as advised and will let you know how it goes. Thank you so much for your help!!
I don't know if it is still alive. There has been no progress in 24 hours except for the jelly like stuff leaking out of the small hole the keet had started to pip. Should I "help it"?
I did a search on this subject but didn't find what I was looking for however I have a guinea egg that has pipped. There were no power outages, temp problems or humidity problems with this hatch. 40 total eggs and I used an egg turner. Six keets hatched yesterday and so far 3 more have hatched...
What color is that light/buff/brown/choc ???? one that is far to the right of the picture. Not the one being discussed or the dark one. It has very pretty shades mixed in.
I'm in Virginia and mine usually don't start laying until late to mid March however .... when I got home from work on Friday (Jan 25th) with the snow, sleet and ice coming down like a blizzard, I found two guinea eggs sitting in the middle of the coop. Like a gift from the Guinea Gods! Haven't...
Yes the Royal Purle is right dab in the middle of the photo with the squggly lines on his head - dark body with the lighter head. I agree with PeepsCa on the colors. I can't tell either on the two lightest ones. Nice looking bunch of keets!!!!
We put the game cam down at the pond because we weren't getting anything except us walking to the camera and away from the camera. We got dozens of pictures from this guy. He walked back and worth eyeing the camera. This was the best picture.
