Light brownish with some white on it (like all my other birds who are perfectly healthy).
Of course, since she's been put in the cage she hasn't pooped. The only thing I see is a watery discharge on the bottom of the cage. She's only been in there for 2 - 3 hours at this point.
I have a hen, age unknown (I've had her for less than a month and didn't get the age from the former owner ), that is exhibiting some odd symptoms that I have no idea what could be ailing her or how to fix her.
At first I thought it was egg binding, but I soaked her and probed her vent with no...
Well, when an empty incubator stares at you accusingly, you have to fill it!
I'm going to be looking for fertile eggs soon. My incubator has been empty for 2.5 weeks and it's killing me!
How long as the chick been pipped? Chicks can take up to and sometimes a little more than 24 hours to hatch.
Have you read the Assisted Hatch guide here.
I just did my first dry incubation and kept my humidity between 25 and 35% during incubation and upped it to 55-60% during hatch. I don't know how the humidity pump works, but all I did was keep two calibrated hygrometers in the incubator, ran it for a few days before setting my eggs to see...
How I rationalize it to he-who-must-be-obeyed (my husband):
I have to test this out to make sure it works. We don't want to be wasting eggs our eggs while I work on getting the knack of this thing!
Of course, I've got a LG still air incubator and from what I understand it's notorious for...
Not shipped eggs. All of them were from my flock. I'm fairly confident that it was the fan that caused the issue. I'm going to clean the incubator and try once more, this time being sure to keep a fan in the room at all times.
I have never experienced hatching shipped eggs, but I have read...
Goodness! Such a difference!
I calibrated my gauges before incubation this last time, so I know my readings were accurate. And I didn't get the condensation on the viewing windows.
I hope you get a better hatch this time!
So, I recently finalized my third attempt at hatching in a still air Little Giant incubator.
Hatched: 1
Blood ring: 1
Not viable: 1
Early Quitter: 1
Late Quitter: 7
Late Quitter with Internal Pip: 1
The one chick that hatched is doing wonderfully, if a bit lonely. I poured over all my notes...
You want to stay up there all night? Fine! But don't come sqwuaking to me if something tries to eat you!
Said this just last night to a couple of birds roosting in a tree too high for me to reach them and put them back in the coop.
