I have a foot of snow on my property and its currently -20. No live bugs or live edible plants for the chickens in this frozen tundra til prob late April/May. Unfortunately, for about 6 months of the year, my chickens rely on feed and purchased supplements. I do give them salad scraps, but none...
Im in Southeast Wisconsin. I have had birds all my life, in various places around the US. and never had a whole flock stop laying for this long. My hens will be three in a month, and they have not laid since right about Thanksgiving. All 6 went through molts at various times this winter. Ive...
I have 6 who have not laid since at least Thanksgiving. Never ever had the entire flock stop laying for so long (this is by far the strangest group of hens Ive ever had).
2 started molting around Thanksgiving and every few weeks, another 2 started. The first two are finally done, and the...
I was searching circulatory issues before starting a new thread and saw this one. wondering about updates on your birds?
I have a 2.5 yr old laying hen who is very lethargic, has battled bouts of that on and off the last year. Every few months she spends 2-3 days like she might die any minute...
Im dealing with an issue that could be a tendon problem in her hock. We are making a chicken seat/sling. keep her off of it for a bit to see if that helps it heal. Hope yours is doing better
btw, it doesn't seem too stiff when trying to flex it, it may not be totally out, maybe just sprained? How would I know if it's a broken bone? I guess that would be more obvious.
I have a feeling this is it. It does feel a bit out and after rubbing it, trying to straighten it back, she does put a bit of weight on it. I am in the process of making her a chicken seat/sling.
thank you!
I have a 1 + yr old sex link hen who will not put weight on her left foot. This started sometime yesterday. When I got home last night, I noticed she was not on the roost and I just left her be. Today, she did make her way out of the coop and was limping. She otherwise will not walk. She has...
This is such a great thread.
I last had a broody hen about 5 years ago, one of my Buff Orpingtons (page 91 in this thread). Now I have a part time broody hen, one of my Barred Rocks, Sophia.
I say part time, bc she isn't displaying the usual obsessive broodiness (in the box 24/7, poofing...
Good news. There is a local wildlife rescue that specializes in birds. And they have a couple of foster geese, ones who can’t fly. But are otherwise wild. And they received a same aged gosling a couple hours before. So little dude/dudette has a friend and will have foster parents and at the end...
I’m a chicken mom… But my neighbor found a lone gosling wandering, handed it over to me. We live near a small river. Nobody has seen any gosling‘s lately let alone barely any goose pairs hanging out here the last week or so. Have no idea where this little fella came from. Currently in my bathtub...
