Thank you for posting this and all of the replies with information. My black austrolope (sp?) is about 2-1/2 and has just started what has been described here as "broody". She does not want to come out of her nesting box, raises her tail when I nudge her and will puff up if I bother her enough...
I have 6 hens and it seems they all started molting at the same time and at the same time, stopped laying. This started mid December and I think the molt is over now - not many feathers to clean up. I live in the SF bay area and the temperatures are mild, with the nights getting into the 40's...
I'm not sure what's going on. They are different breeds - Rhode Island, Americauna, Bard Rock, Ostrolope, Wyandotte and a Leghorn and they are about 1-1/2 years old - the Wyandotte and Leghorn are only about 1 year. There is molting going on - feathers all over the coop. They are fed a mix of...
She still has all of the downey feathers on her butt, but no tail feathers. No blood or signs of trauma to the area. Is this normal? She is about 18 weeks old. The other 3 in the flock seem to be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply aricisom - we fixed the positions of the nipples to be straight down and our chickens and WE are very happy. This is a great system
We've tried this and the nipples leak like a sieve. We have them positioned at about120 degrees downward - should they be 180 degrees down? Any help would be appreciated.
