As a follow-up....we had to euthanize her :-((((
The necropsy report stated there was yolk and nodules on her intestines. I don't know why that would have made her lame, and especially why she was so physically strong and energetic other than not walking, but there it is.
Following up on this lame hen...we had to euthanize her and the necropsy found yolk and nodules on her intestines. Which didn't seem to match her symptoms (e.g. she was physically strong, still hungry for scratch, still alert toward the end).
There was nothing we could have done to heal her :-(
Thanks so much for sharing your journey with Roxbury and the detailed informatio. It’s very helpful for our situation with a lame hen who is otherwise very healthy.
The only thing I found in threes is B complex vitamin for nerve healing. we’re on day 3 of trying it, along with probiotics, nutridrench, meal worms, grains. She’s very hungry but won’t touch her pellets.
Thanks for the info. She became lame all at once. Is still very strong and healthy other than being paralyzed. IMy theory is she landed wrong from jumping off something. She’s a big heavy hen. Sadly I think we have to put her down.😔
Yes! It’s 5 days now and other than her back not working she seems very strong. I’m giving her nutridrench, egg, bread, and B complex vitamins. No better. I’m afraid I’ll have to euthanize her soon as sitting all day is no life for a hen. I’m heartbroken.
Please help.
our 6yr old Osterlope became lame 3 days ago. She just started wobbling and then couldn’t stand.
The weird part is there are few obvious symptoms to point toward a cause.
Her eyes, comb, crop, beak/mouth, abdomen, legs are all sound.
She’s very hungry for scratch but won’t touch...
Thanks for your reply
After watching some YouTube videos I figured out it’s scaly leg mites. And several of my other girls have a mild case. I’ve never had the problem before. It’s been very wet here and I didn’t put out DE like I do the rest of the year so I think the mites are flourishing...
I have a black silver lace Wyandotte (sp?) with very tender feet. I’ve trimmed her longer nails which made no difference. I noticed the symptoms three days ago. When I palpitate her feet she doesn’t object. She can hobble but it’s clearly painful.
She’s losing weight and hiding under the coop...
Howdy,
We have a Coop Co-Op of 4 neighbors that takes care of our 22 hens. The coop is in my backyard so I do the majority of care and paying attention to the flock.
I’ve been taking care of a flock since 2005.
This year we built a fancy new predator proof Coop. The big upgrades, in addition to...
