    Your "blood bath" sounds familiar... Here in rural Idaho, we have plenty of nocturnal predators, but the most bold are the skunks. They love eggs, and they love DUCK NECKS!.. yup... they will just bite thru the poor ducks necks and leave the bodies in the field. Make sure your pen is predator...

    Heater base for plastic waterers?

    I have one, and have also made a few from cookie tins with 40 watt light bulbs, but lately the weather here in Idaho has been below 10 degrees at night, and neither of these keep the water from freezing at that temp.

    Alyssa's First Orpingtons! (Blue and Splash)

    These ladies will be the best chicks you ever own...make sure to handle them regularly... we raised chicks from a local breeder last Spring, and my Splash(SPECKLES) and Blue(GRAYBEE) are the sweetest chickens... they love to be held and hand fed...good luck to you...

    The pic on my post is one of the chicks we bought from you, Kevin... we just love them and they are running around like crazy, eating every bug they can find, and three of them out of the 10 are starting to crow... I would really like to keep all of them, and I think until there is some trouble...

    We live in Emmett and have an small existing flock of 5 hens and a rooster, and have added 10 chicks born in April to the flock... unfortunately, some are now crowing... soo... we will definitely have a diverse group.
