Aloha all.
I am in Makakilo and have had some bad luck already with my flock. My own dog killed 5 young ones. I didn't realize she could open the coop run door. I fixed that problem by installing a real chain link gate leading to the area, now she can't get to the run at all.
But the I lost the...
I just moved into a house after living in a condo. My system is small, but starting to take off.
This is what is was on my patio....
Cherry tomato went wild! And okinawan sweet potato did well too.
I finished building 3 raised beds to put in my front yard. I have three compost piles going that I will use to partly fill them. Then next month I will get some good soil and start planting!
Made from heat treated pallets. 3.5 ft by 3.5 ft and one foot deep.
I grow celery and it grows pretty fast. I do not use all the leaves, so I give the excess to the chickens. Just like normal gardening. Anything you don't use they can eat. Stuff just grows faster typically in aquaponics.

This is a small facebook group for aquaponics.
Another good site is
aquaponicsinparadise.com there is a pretty good forum there too.
So I finished my coop and nesting box today.
All made from pallets, so it is a little rough, but I only spent money on the roof!
My chicks are only 4 weeks old, give or take a few days.
Here is my run with the coop in it. And also my 7 chicks. I went to get 4 and the guy gave me more for free. He had too many!
I also plan to free range them in my yard when I am home.
Someone dropped of this baby chick at my work yesterday. They said they found it in their yard the night before.
She is super tiny. Just today she finally started to peck the food a little bit. Any clues to what she might be? I live on Oahu and there are plenty of feral chickens around for sure...
Thanks all for the welcome.
I am adding a pic of where I will add my chicken run.
I will have a coop in the back and use chicken wire to cover the wood fence and go over the top. Then bring it in and create a door to walk in. Probably about 12 feet out and it is almost 5 feet wide.
So I finally moved into a house with a nice yard and I am almost ready to add chickens! I have been wanting to for years, but living in a condo prevented that from happening.
I have a nice yard with a huge mango tree, plenty of shade, 6 foot tall fence for most of the yard and nothing behind my...
