Very nice, I'm looking to learn more survival craft this year. My only real experience so far is the SAS survival handbook and camping trips. But they've been pretty comfortable trips, I'm after a bit more deprivation than what I'm used to.
Over 700 posts since last visit lol. Sold nineteen chicks recently, not a bad start. Had one sitting but the eggs went rotten, I blame the heat. Thinking of getting an incubator myself, maybe hatch some turkeys. Nice drop of rain today, good relief from the heat and good for the farm/garden...
Yeah killing isn't alot of fun. As for medication I treat as needed. You'd be surprised what chemicals you can use on an animal and it can still be considered organic. When it all comes down to
it, organic is pretty much just marketing. But of the less hormones and chemicals the better. If...
Didn't have to do much today thanks to the rain. I finally started my worm farm, very happy about that.
Here's how everythings coming along so far.
Unfortunately heilothis has got into the corn and tomatoes. Hopefully I'll be able to do something about this.
Yeah Bogan Gate's a real place lol. Anyway, apparently there was an explosion at a fire works factory.
Rain's been an anticlimax, barely wet the back cement. Came up real windy 15 mins ago and there's supposed to be a chance of storms.
Not holding my breath though.
@SandeeC It's threatening rain but so far not much. We had a bit of a storm yesterday arvo but it mostly just passed us.I noticed things were looking heavy your way this morning. Here's hoping we don't get any bushfires from these storms. I heard something started up around Bogan Gate...
I'm planning on setting up a system. My Ag teacher has referred me to a few people who are interested in aquaponics and I'm hoping they'll be able to help me out. Season 2 episode 5 of doomsday preppers is on these two neighbours who are in a competition to see who can have the best system. I...
@cityfarmer12 It's good having that much land, but first and foremost it's a business. Trying to make a living of it isn't always easy.
@wyoDreamer Summers are hot and dry, temps can and do reach the 40c (not sure what that is F*)
Winters are good. Might get down to minus 4c, it snows a bit...
Sadly it didn't stick around for long, but rain is due about monday I believe.
I'm between Cowra and Young, things are very dry at the moment and there's alot of fuel about. A fire would be potentially catastrophic.
Corn, Tomatoes, Squash, Pumpkins, Chili's, Eggplant and various herbs are all powering along. Even noticed Chilli's had started to form this morning.
Been mulching and liquid fertilising everything. Plus weekend rain seems to have done wonders.
We didn't quite hit the 40 mark, came closer than I'd like though. Cold change and rain came through on saturday which was most welcome.
Sunny again but quite pleasant, even drenched a few hundred lambs this morning. Managed to sell ten of my chicks to a neighbour yesterday which is great...
The effects of GMO on a person are still unknown, though personally I'd never eat it.I was talking to a friend about them today, there's a few people in my area growing GM canola. According to him it's very difficult stuff to kill, common chemicals won't harm it. Once it goes wild, which has...
Supposed to get up to 40c and Russian warships are in our waters, what a day.
Luckily 20-40mm of rain is on the way and the temps supposed to drop right back tomorrow night.
p.s cat seems nice and recovered
p.p.s Saw the Rolling Stones Wednesday night, so amazing!
