Hello Bay Area folks!
I have 3 young roosters in need of a new home. One Golden laced Wyandotte and two Delaware Heritage breed, all hatched at the end of March and hand-raised. They've just started crowing in the last few weeks. They're well socialized with people, kids, dogs & cats. I'm...

Hello Chicken Folk
My name is Caitlin, and I live in a bizzare community in West Oakland, California.
There are about 35 of us that live on this side of the block, and we have no fences between our yards. We're all renters except for the landlady who lives here too. She directs the use of...
Happy 2011 Everybody!
to the community at large: THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL.I'm not the most tech-savvy BYC member, and I'll be the first to admit that I don't much know what I'm doing with this whole "urban farming" thing; but I've so enjoyed this site and all of the informative threads...
We brew in 40 gal batches. Mostly IPA, although we branched out and experimented with some fun stuff this summer... jalapeno cream ale, chocolate oatmeal stout, and chocolate chili stout.
We've also got 5 gal batches of fig wine and mead in the works. Fun stuff.
Hello all,
If anyone here in Oakland or nearby has hatching eggs available, I'd be so grateful. I've got useful buckets and barrels, as well as honey from my bees for bartering. I'd also be happy to purchase them outright, but I really need to get them today or tomorrow (Monday) and put them...
Hey Jeremy! What are you doing posting eggs up for grabs when you still haven't given me any?
My poor hen is still sitting on those decoys, and we cannot get her out of her broodyness.
I've taken the afternoon off work to see the doctor, but I could come by your place later and pick them up...
Hello folks... I've got a broody BPR hen who's been taking herself very seriously for the past few days. My neighbor tried to "break" her, but it seems only to have strengthened her resolve. Does anyone have fertile eggs they'd like to donate to a first-time-broody experiment? Otherwise I'm...

Hello, and welcome.
I'm in Oakland, but I drive through your neck of the woods on my work commute.
Good luck with your birds.
And, to everyone else...
I'm looking to adopt 3 or 4 more hens soon, and thought I'd check here first. They need to be at or close to laying age (I lost my...
Howdy, Cheryl,
If some of your laying hens need homes, I may be able to talk my landlady into a couple more. Feel free to PM me.
The three that I took from Jeremy have been absolutely wonderful. Everyone here loves them and the're great layers, which we need since we're getting so many egg...

He's very handsome!
Very much so. He looks like an English gentleman. I'm thinking Mr. Rochester, though he really wasn't a gentleman
Nor did he have a harem, just the two ladies... "Feedle-dee-dee-dee-dee!"
Hey Jeremy! Can I come meet your ladies some time? I'm really curious...
We just started selling, so we're still working things out, but for now it's $5.00 / dozen.
A friend in the city buys 2 dozen / month for $6.00 each (he was paying $8.00 / dozen at the store).
Some of our neighbors get the discount price of $4.00 / dozen.
Luckily, I live in an area where some...

They were used to transport reagents for cell culture media. Powdered phosphorus, citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, etc. All of that stuff is packaged inside plastic bags which sit inside the drums, so there's really no contact with the contents anyways. I can give 'em a quick scrub with...
Egg finally passed.
Thank goodness!
We soaked her in a bath for 45 min or so, then rotated the egg inside the membrane with a silicone lubricant to coat.
Soaked her for another 20-15 minutes, then worked the membrane off manually (imagine working on a condom in reverse), and "pop!" Out came a...
