    Hi, I can understand you might want to raise chicks but I question why you have 3 cockerels unless you have lots of hens. One rooster to 7 hens should be fine. Fatten up those cockerels and put 2 in the freezer. You're feeding two more chickens than you need to. I don't have chickens now but...

    I grew up with RI Reds, White Leghorns and Bard Rock. I'm not particular about the color or decoration. To me chickens are for meat and/or eggs. Reds are pretty good for both, Leghorns great for eggs, the old Rocks are great for meat and fair for eggs. I've never been a fan of the "fancy"...

    LOL, I get that, janiedoe. Guess being raised on a small farm animals weren't for entertainment, they were for producing eggs and meat. Nothing wrong with enjoying them, just not something I got from chickens. Glad you've got the good life.

    OK, I don't want to insult anyone here but are you trying to raise your own chicks? If not, why any roosters at all? I live in an urban/suburban setting and don't have chickens but I'm not allowed roosters if I do. BTW, I was raised on a farm and have two degrees in Ag. Just my thoughts.
