Hello, I'm not new to BYC but haven't had chickens for awhile. We inherited 2 adult chickens and 1 mean roo. Then this spring got another 6 babies.

We inherited 2 adult chickens and 1 mean roo when we moved to a small town in South Central Utah to my husband's family home which we recently bought. Then this spring we got another 6 babies. 1 being another rooster. We have 4 Rhoad Island Reds and 2 Brahmas. The old ladies keep the new ladies...

    Raising baby chicks

I have had chickens for several years then went a couple years without them. Then a neighbor girl got one and her family decided not to keep it so I got her. So I have had Nugget for about a year now. My question is when I get new chicks is she going to pick on them? And at what age should I put...

    Golden Brahma?

I think you are right! It (He) is a Cochin. Very pretty. Can't tell how old he is but his morning crow is very quiet so I'm thinking he's young and just coming into his crowing. He only crows in the mornings tho. Is that normal? We had another rooster that sadly I had to give him away because he...

    Golden Brahma?

We just acquired a new chicken. We thought it was a chick but think now that it has turned out to be a roo. It's a Brahma, completely golden in color and very, very full feathers around legs and feet. We have no idea how old or young he is. My husband "heard" his crow yesterday but it's very...

    6 baby chicks

I have 6 baby chicks that are around 7 to 8 weeks old. They have all feathered out and we have them in the coup sectioned off from the older chicks. At what age can we let them out to wander and mingle with the older chicks? They want out of the coup now but am afraid the older chicks will hurt...

What treat did your chickies get today?

Found some old top ramen so soaked it in warm water until it was soft then added green beans. They love the noodles. Also still canning tomatoes so they get the left over skins and stuff. My sister read that garlic was good to give them, is that true? What about onion and hot peppers?

    yeast for chicken feed

I think the yeast is the baking yeast. What is the difference? Also the wheat is an unopened can so it should be fine. Should I mix it in with other feed?
