    3 sick hens this morning

Hi, I'm happy to report that all three of our hens survived and they just started laying again. Thanks to everyone that helped me along. We were really worried we were going to loose them and they were just six month old. Thanks again, Lou

    3 sick hens this morning

Thanks Marlene, We have raised many baby birds. We use to breed scarlet and blue and gold macaws and have hand raised many other types of parrots. They usually are aggresive eaters and they take it very well. We didn't have any long tip syringes and non of the drugs stores around here carried...

    3 sick hens this morning

All is well at the ranch. The three hens made it and they are back to acting like chickens. The only thing that I found that might have gotten them sick were some mushrooms in the horse manuer pile. So now every morning before they go out we will check the manuer pile for mushrooms. Thanks to...

    3 sick hens this morning

Well, we are happy to report that two are back to eating dry food and drinking. The third one pecked at the food and ate quite a bit of the liquified food. I think that by latter today they'll be all eating on their own. Thanks for the help and support, Lou

    3 sick hens this morning

Thanks Kathy, We are used to syringe feeding baby macaws but they help you as they naturally get fed by the parents. Feeding a chicken that is kind of fighting you is more difficult so we are afraid of having it go down in their lungs. Any ideas as how to get more fluids in them. They seem...

    3 sick hens this morning

They are only drinking with the eye dropper. We are giving them liquid food with gatorade. One is eating from the spoon pretty good. When we offer the one that is eating from the spoon some dry food she pecks at it but only in mid air about an inch away from the food. We'll keep hand feeding...

    3 sick hens this morning

This morning they seem to be holding their eyes open longer and their heads up more. Two of them stood up and walked a little. They are wobly like if they were drunk and still not eating on their own. It's been over 48 hours since we found them like this. Time for hand feeding again. I'll report...

    3 sick hens this morning

The only thing we think is that they ate something. We'll probably never know what. I hope it wasn't intentionally. One eats of the spoon and pretty good, the other two are still eating from the dropper. Neither are eating as much as the third and with much difficulty. The one that walked to the...

    3 sick hens this morning

Thanks for the replies and concerns, We didn't have any rat poison out. They have our yard to roam on a daily basis so we don't know what they got into. That worries us because they are out every day. We are encouraged as they are taking more food and drinking a bit more from an eye dropper...

    3 sick hens this morning

The hens are just over six month old. They just started to lay eggs a couple of weeks ago. In fact two laid eggs yesterday one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The closest feed store is over 75 miles away. We live in the Florida Keys and have to go to the mainland for feed stores. Today...

    3 sick hens this morning

Thanks for the reply. They are still alive and seem a little better. No moldy food, so we don't know what they could have gotten into. We'll be trying to feed them something in a little while. Yesterday being New Years day everything was closed. We sure would like to save them as they are part...

    3 sick hens this morning

This morning, our three young hens are acting like they are sick. At first, they could not stand up or walk. We have gotten two of them to eat very soupy ground up layena mixed with warm water. They have not eaten much, but they are taking a little bit of it on their own from a spoon. They...
