Yesterday I bought four chicks who are about four weeks old.
one is all black, including it's beak and feet.( I've concluded it's an Ayam Cemini.)
one is big and gray with a bit of white on it's face.
one is a creamy colored one.
and the last has striped wings and a white face with greenish...
So recently, i've really been wanting to incubate chicks. Today i'm getting an incubator from amazon and soon after getting eggs. The types i'm trying to get are
Lavender Orpingtons
Ayam Cemani (Hopefully)
Delaware Chickens
Plymouth rock chickens.
Hoping they all hatch :)
If anyone has any...
So I remembered my grandpa had a small coop-like thing for chicks to be raised in. It's been used tons of times for raising newly hatched chicks. It has a door that has a lock too high for a raccoon to get it. There's no possible way that any animals can dig under it. It also has heating lamps...
The crate I have is plastic on three sides, the bottom is covered so no animals would be able to dig, and the little door is made of strong metal. Is that good? And it would have a fence around it.
Just a thought... I have a chicken who lays eggs and then eats them soon after. I really want to save some of the eggs :( . I would put them in a shelter at night so no animals could find their way in. But I would keep them in a box once they first hatch.
Is it possible to just fence the chickens in, with shelter of course? Just while i'm working on getting a coop set up.
And how many chickens do you suggest me getting?
Wow! That's so awesome! How did you make the homemade incubator? Sound like a good idea. I've got a hen who eats her own eggs, so it'd be nice to be able to incubate them.
So next door my grandpa has a Rooster and a hen. The hen lays eggs, then soon after, eats them. I was thinking about getting an incubator and hatching one or two, but I don't have a coop. My idea was to keep it in a box while it's small, and then put it in a fence with a old dog house and cover...
