There is a rising issue with people cuddling their chickens too much and getting sick. sure my chickens like to jump up on my lap when I sit in the "treat chair" but their feet are covered in chicken poo and they aren't clean creatures. they can transfer mites and other pests onto your person...
Has anyone found a way to get Poultry Sheild in the states? I'm thinking of getting a friend to send it to me from the UK!
I just don't see a real solution...i'm not going to dust my chickens...they dust in ash and seem to be ok for now, but the mites
are getting on me when I go in and out of...
After months of tractor supply hen eggs (golden commet) this is our first OLIVE EGG!!!! we've been waiting SO LONG!!!! Wait till our first crested cream legbar egg shows up! We'll cry!
I've combed the forums for info on deep litter method with a coop that doesn't have contact with the soil, but I still have a few questions. My coop is a 4x8 raised shed style that houses 11 chickens. We've been turning the bedding daily and addng new straw and pine shavings a few times a week...
My flock block has been around for about 4 months...I broke it into pieces so they could get to the seeds...but I'm afraid it's expired. They are very picky eaters so I tend to think if it were bad they wouldn't eat it. Thoughts?
thank you so much! I did all this research before we got the chickens, but when they are actually here I feel completely neurotic and worried that something will happen to them! I just needed someone to talk me down. Great feedback! I know there are lots of cold temp threads so I hope this...
We have some Golden Comets or Red Sexlinks that are new to the coop. Bill is so worried about them, he wants to put a heat lamp in the coop! but I worry about fire...and also, if they can't take the weather now...what are we going to do when it's actually winter???
yes! I'm new to building and found the galvanized self-drilling screws (with star drive) saved us SO much time! no wood splitting, no pre drilling, and they're indestructable! used them all over the coop in all sizes!!!
THERE IS WHITE???? if we knew we could use white BJ57 we would just do the entire inside of the coop! right????
anyhoo...we got black and now we were wondering if we should/could paint white kilz over the BJ57????
Oh man! I think I'm trying to put in an order with Papa's Poultry as well! thank you for all this information!!! I had no clue about Meyer's Mondays! and I'll check out the Champion Feed Store tomorrow!!!
what if you have roosters for each breed kept separate, and put the female with male when you want them to do the nasty?
so you have a group of ladies together free ranging, and when you want to knock one up put it in the pen with the rooster.
do you have all the breeds you listed available? how many pullets total for $120?
Do you have any black copper marans? Ameracaunas? Welsummers?
Do your Rhodebars lay olive eggs? or just brown? if just brown then why put them in the rainbow egg batch?
I'm ready to purchase.
I just moved East of Columbus and I'm looking for chicks, but afraid I missed out on the best birds! Meyer's is all sold out of most breeds! Any suggestions? chicks or adults are fine...I'm on the classified here. I've never bought chicks from a tractor supply. Is that a good place to buy...
